    Sensible or selfish?

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1165148/The-incredible-shrinking-mum-Woman-piled-OFF-weight-pregnant.html

To lose 8 stone while pregnant just seems stupid to me. Surely no doctor woulld say that was a sensible thing to do?
In all fairness she didnt loose the whole 8 stone during pregnancy, (love how the daily mail seem to do that alot) she lost 4 stone in 4 months then discovered she was 2 months pregnant, the fact that she was so huge before and obviously eating a huge amount of crappy foods, then stopped eating crap and a healthy balanced diet just meant that she kept loosing the weight.

I can see how for her it made sense - and she was probably getting better nutrition on her diet than beforehand eating pizza and chips for dinner. It doesn't sound like she starved herself - just cut out the biscuits and made more sensible choices.

If you have eight stone to lose, maybe it makes sense to start taking serious stock of what you're eating while pregnant, and a side effect of eating healthier could be weight loss. If you're just looking at a stone or two then wait till the baby's out and let the breastfeeding take care of some of it.

Bellyfrog's always insisting I eat McDonalds so I try to get enough veg elsewhere in my diet and make sure I take my vitamins.

Edit: I've put on about 8kg so far. I'm not overly concerned - I was very petite before, and the weight can be accounted for by extra boobs, blood, baby and placenta/fluid. It'll all come off afterwards and if I have stretchmarks when I'm done then so be it. I'll have earned them.

    From the article Feely posted:
Women are recommended not to gain more than 26lb (12kg) during pregnancy.

Great... I'm already over that and I have 7 weeks to go... b*gger...

Mrs T - does your doc say anything about gaining more than the 'recommended' weight?

I probably will put on loads of weight, and i dont want my doc making me feel guilty lol. All the books say 'you only need to put on 2 pounds blah blah"

    lol xx

Doctor not yet... MW raised an eyebrow and my weight combined with glucose in my samples for 3 consecutive visits means I now have to go and be monitored for gestational diabetes... smeg!

having been on slimming world as well it's just a good way to eat rather than a diet, it doesn't restrict your intake, it just advises a diet with more fresh fruit and veg and dairy products and less of the higher calorie stuff...to be honest as long as she was eating a healthy varied diet I'm sure the baby was getting everything it needed. To be honest, I'm still strugglling to maintain my weight while pregnant let alone put any on but i am making sure i have a really healthy varied diet and eat loads of fruit and veg....so hopefully bellybean is getting all it needs!

Right... guess i really should cut out all the crap from my diet... *sigh*...
healthy eating starts tomorrow - not going to limit the amounts I eat - just what I eat... Need to start my habits from early in pregnancy again and eat carrots when I feel snacky instead of naughty food... bah humbug!

I agree Misses, she was overeating and started eating properly so it was more than likely completely healthy as she was still eating a nice balanced diet.
BUT I don't like the fact that this has been reported because too many women would not read the article properly and go on a silly diet while preg.

    EA I think you mean 2stone not 2pound ;)
There is a calculator whic I shall go and find for you :D

PS do you like my new haircut??
