If you're a student (or you know one), you could get a student discount. I can't remember the exact discount, but it's a pretty sizeable amount.
Failing that, keep an eye on the Apple Refurb Store.0 -
FYI 14% i'm a p/t student, the discount nearly tempted me into buying an iMac but i've held back :rolleyes:0

Just out of curiosity, are you sure you need a 17" MB Pro? I just got the 13" MB and, with 'spaces' turned on, the desktop is pretty big (1280 x 800 x 4).
The 15" MB Pro is bigger still (1400 x 900 x 4 ish). Compared to that the 17" will be huge. Have a look at them and see if you really need the real estate.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
Screen space is not the only factor.
ProBooks have Firewire 800 and an ExpressCard slot.
The 17" has a third USB2 port and, crucially for some, can be ordered with an anti-glare (matte) screen instead of a glossy screen.
A MacBook has none of these. I'm not sure a MacBook can support a 30" external display, either.
I do agree with you about "Spaces", though. It's absolutely brilliant.
How anyone achieves functionality on a 10" netbook without it, I cannot imagine. I even use it all the time on my 30" monitor!

The aluminium model supports an external display resolution of up to 2560 by 1600 pixels, and the white MacBook supports up to 1920 by 1200.I do agree with you about "Spaces", though. It's absolutely brilliant.

I don't think I've ever actually turned it on.0 -
I believe the white one has now had its graphics updated to the same spec as the aluminium ones but it's not clear from the Apple U.K. website. If so, it should be able to.
Apple U.K.s page for the 30" monitor says it cannot support any of the MacBooks, though!
Do try "Spaces": you'll wonder how you ever managed without it! To me, it's the best additional feature of all in OS 10.5.
I set mine up in two rows of four. If the direction keys on your keyboard are next to the right-hand CONTROL key, you can then use the first and second, or first and third, fingers of your right hand (in combination) to zip between spaces.
Put different applications into different spaces.
You can also drag a pane from one space to another space, which is very handy.
Experiment!

Hi there,
I'd look at dixonstaxfree if you are travelling through one of the UK airports soon, they have the 2.4 Macbook for £977, or the macbook pro for £1148.
