I'm on a Telewest line and have just sat a read all 13 pages of this and i had no idea how much i was being ripped off for phone calls!
I would set it up to use 1899 all the time so would I just have to set it to prefix 0808 1 708 708 then set a forced delay before it dials whatever number i am ringing?
Would i need to enter the area code for all my calls? even if i was calling next door?
now just need to decide if i should do it with this dialler or try VoIP!0 -

No, the Orchid Dialler v4 (not sure about v2) once set up can recognise a local number and dial it including your full area code to save you having to.
I personally found their video very useful. I watched it a few times first then having watched one little section would pause it and try it myself and carry on watching the next section of the video (basically step-by-step). I only used the manual to learn how to force home the dialler.
There was only one thing I had to email them over and that was setting up the number translation so that calls to any 118... (or even using the old 192 number would automatically route to 118 111 (onetel's own directory enquiries).0 -
Hi,
Just to say that I have had mine about a month and I am very happy with it .
Like the others say its not easy to set up but I did mine in just over an hour . The offer of £2 set up might be money well spent for some.
Tech support are very helpfull and I don`t mind the 0870 considering some tech supports charge 50p or a £1.
Be aware that BT are often cheaper for evening mobiles , so you might want to set it up this way. link here

Has Garrett got himself sorted yet? Haven't heard or seen anything..... bbb_uk how did you get the 118 translate set up? I hadn't thought of it till i saw your post and could do with using 118111 myself (or at least the wife and kids could)0

My apologies I completely forgot about posting the outcome.
The 118 translate works fine. It translates any 118x number dialled (inc the old 192 service) to OneTel's directory enquiry service.
Having emailed Orchid, I received a reply within a few hours, the response is below:-
First add a new Carrier code of "118111 - DQ Service":
7.1 Add a new Carrier Code
· Double click on next available carrier line
· Select Carrier Code from the drop down menu
· Click on OK
Now, add "118*1*9 - 118 DQ Trans" and "192 - 192 Translation" routing codes (both should have the 'T' Translate attribute):
7.4 Add a new Routing Code
· Double click on next available (empty) Routing line
· Select Routing Code from the drop down menu
· Select for Day, Night & Weekend, the "118111 - DQ Service" carrier (specified in 7.1)
· Click on OK
I have found it very useful and saves money because I know no matter which 118 service anyone dials (although I've informed everyone to just dial 192) it will only use OneTel's. Of course, the 121 override can still be used in case anyone has problems or doesn't like OneTel's directory enquiry service.0 -
Cheers Kev,
That saved me an email to orchid and a few quid in 118 call costs!! Do I assume that i will need to "call home" the dialler to pick up the changes i have made to my routing table, I have done anyway, and it seems to be working.0 -

Yes. Any changes you make to the routing table you need to call home on all your diallers (if you have more than 1)0 -

You will just need to program the day, date & time in via your telephone handset,
V4 Dialler:
Lift Handset
Dial **#0000* [hhmmdowddmmyy] *2
Replace the handset immediately
Lift Handset
Press redial on your phone
Replace handset after last number has been dialled
Eg:
DOW (Day of week). 1= Monday through 7= Sunday
V4 Dialler Example assuming 4pm Tuesday 29th April:
Lift Handset
Dial ** # 0000* 16 00 2 29 04 05 *2
Replace the handset immediately
Lift Handset
Press redial on your phone
Replace handset after last number has been dialled0 -

As it's all been programmed for you, all you need to do is 'Call Home'. This is a process where the dialler rings home and downloads all your routing details, etc.
To call home:-
1. Lift handset
2. Dial * * * 1 2 # 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 * 3
3. Replace the handset
After replacing the handset, the dialler's redlight flashes to indicate it is downloading your routing details.
According to the manual, it is recommended you leave the dialler for 5mins before making a manual test call or checking the routing information via their software.
That should be it!
I found the video itself was easier to understand than the instructions. Assuming you have a broadband connection, you can view their videos here. I selected the Routing Table video. I found if I paused it after each step and followed the step on the actual software I got the hand of programming it.
Maybe Orchid could do a downloadable video for those who haven't got a fast internet connection. What do you think Orchid?0
