If you want to use it for anything other than personal use you have to inform them of your intentions

If I called a customer service number and was in the middle of a arguement with said company I would advise the agent at the start of the call I was recording them and was this ok
  • i was conned by btcustomerstreet in june 2009,i have a kleeneze business, the guy said he could get me on the front page of google which did not happen,he said i would get advertisement on 118500,which did not happen.basically i ended up paying for a worthless website which looked as though a kid had done.btcustomerstreet also trade as ufindus.why bt actually bought this company with there track record is beyond me.THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN.NAME AND SHAME THEM ON NATIONAL TV MARTIN:money:

No they dont have to record them but they may for "security and training purposes".

Which IMO is wrong. I've had several arguments with virgin, them telling me i'm under contract and me saying i never agreed to be put back into contract (mainly because i find you get appalling customer services if you're in contract with them and are treated better if its possible for you to leave without penalty) and them saying because theyre a media company, they can agree things over the phone. They quickly backtracked when i asked for the call to be pulled and played back to see if i was advised - apparently they couldnt as the call hadnt bee recorded.

Although i once recorded a conversation between myself and an ex-boss (who has since been barred from running any company) who tried to sack me for - ironically - putting in a complaint about their misuse of cctv (checking how many times staff were going to the loo etc!). They hadnt even given me notice of a disciplinary. They had signs up in the office saying audio/visual was being recorded.....i figured (maybe wrongly?) that would cover me if i wanted to submit the recording into a unfair dismissal hearing. Unfortunately it never got that far......he called me a few hours later (from what i heard he had checked with a lawyer) and apologised and said he wasnt sacking me at all. Funnily enough i'm still with that company and he isnt :D
I would have asked them for a copy of the recording from their own mics but tbh, i didnt trust them given all their unreasonable behaviour over the previous year.

Hi i recieved a phone call from a telesales person from BT customer street who was trying to sell a website and directory service, after a few minutes when he realized he wasn't going to get a sale he blatantly to me to f*ck off, He also said in the conversation that he got my company number from the local paper, I have recorded the entire conversation and thinking about posting it on youtube, I am also wanting any advice if i can take this action any furthe.

Why were you recording it? Methinks there is a little more to this story as why would you be randomly recording a phone call.

Why? I record every phone call I make and receive as a routine if it's to or from a company and I always inform them of this at the end of the call, usually "oops silly me sorry I forgot to tell you this call is being recorded", theres nothing they can do about it but it does unhinge them, sometimes I tell them at the start if they are sales just to listen to them struggle in thier pitch.

As cyberbob asks - why were you recording this call?

"I record every call" is not a reason

Why not, if you record calls you do not have to give a reason to the person on the other end, if they don't like it they can hang up and lose a sale if they wish. I would say with the way some companies operate that recording a call is a very good safety measure, if nothing else it makes them more cautious in what they say to you.
