The pearl barley doesnt need soaking, but you will find certain peas do, i dont think they will kill you, but you will prob find they stay hard, and wont be nice to eat!!!!!0

Oh dear... well as long as it won't kill us! I soaked them for about half an hour and zapped them in the microwave, and they'll be in the slow cooker for a good six hours. I'll have to just see how it all turns out.
Thanks for your help!0 -
I have never tried soup in the slow cooker only on the hob, but I use soup mix all the time without soaking and it turns out fine. Good luck with yours.

I've had good results with soup mix without soaking too0

Well that's good to hear! I'll let you know if it turns out to be veg soup with crunchy peas or normal peas!0
-
Well some of the peas were a little firm but they were okay. I'll soak them for a bit next time, just to be sure. Thanks again for your help!0

, can anyone supply or point me in the right direction of suitable recipes!
Thanks in advance. :TThere's always someone bigger and better, smarter and stronger but there's only one YOU!:j0 -
i think thats probably a dried mix of pulses and beans look on the back of packet do u have to soak it first? if so do this if not just add to stock and veg ect to make soup or use to thicken stews and casseroles, i nearly brought some the other day..... wish i had now!!!!!!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

I've seen people adding porridge or ground oats to casseroles before now, and I know that crushed weetabix work too.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Have a look at Gingham Ribbon's excellent vegetarian menu thread - lots of fabulous ideas and several mentions of broth mix! http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2578850
