You kinda do owe them money, and thats the 5 x £XX for the time remaining on the contract. To get out of the contract you'll have to pay for the months even if you don't use them, and that's regardless of if you want the PAC code or not.
Best bet is to call them and try for a reduction saying you can't afford them, but thats probably as much as you will get, and you may need to agree to another 12 month contract to get that.
