It's more of a texture thing with me to be honest, i'm not fussy with food and i'm willing to try most things once. I'm the same with mushrooms, can't stand the texture, but don't mind the taste or smell.
My stepmum used to buy tinned salmon and the bone through it just looked vile. Maybe I have a mental block on bones! (no rude comments thank you :rotfl:)
Oh and forgot to mention if you don't like strange textures then you'll prob want to remove the skin from the sardines too (it won't be hard, it will just fall off really) as I think it can be a bit tough it doesn't sort of break down like salmon skin does IYSWIM.Started Comping 25th September 2013.

I hate fish bones too, I always have a good search through before eating it even if the label says 'boneless' and I spend ages taking all the bits of bones out of salmon. Good job I don't eat it that often ... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

years ago I made a pizza base and used mashed up sardines with a dash of tabasco and worstershire sauce and some tomato puree to cover the base with sprinkled some strong cheddar cheese over the top of that and bunged in the oven .When it had all cooked to a cheesey goey consistancy I decorated with tomatos, sliced cucumber and finely chopped spring onion. It was used as part of a platter at a party we had. Every bit was scoffed and people kept asking for more and where I had got the receipe from.
I had just made it up as I went along, but I never told anyone that I just said it was a special one I had found in a 'posh cook book' I must admit it was rather nice and very savoury. The party went with quite a swing as it made folk rather thirsty lol0 -
The pizza post is a good one and I use tinned sardines or even pilchards when I make pizza for me and the kids. If you mash the fish thoroughly, bones and skin are undetectable I find. I started doing this for as a cheap way of adding omega oils for the kids ( oily fish are good for your brain and your heart :T) and the bones are calciyummy!
I use 1 or 2 pitta breads per person (depends how greedy you are) mash up the fish (in tomato sauce or whatever) and spread evenly over the pitta . 1 small tin can be divided between 6 pitta breads if you're nervous about the taste, but otherwise 1 tin to 4 pitta breads. Then a layer of chopped tomatoes (tinned or fresh), then some tomato puree, then whatever toppings you fancy....ham, pepperoni, sweetcorn, mushrooms, peppers and cheese are favourites in our house. Grill until the cheese bubbles. Quite a quick, cheap and healthy meal, especially if you use value ranges.
My kids didn't realise there was any fish at all at first and now ask for extra tinned sardines as "it's more tasty" :cool:0 -
Mash them up reallly fine and mix them into a tomatoey pasta sauce. they'll add protein to the meal but yoou'll barely know they're there.
The spine is the only noticeable bone, take it out before you cook them. The others will just crumble up when you mash them.August grocery challenge: £50

I just made a chilli sardine fish pie and I'm rather proud of it. Looks fab!
I put a 33p tin of Mr S chilli sardines in, mashed with about 8oz nuked cherry toms from the local market and some basics coleslaw that needed using up. Fresh mash on top (made from basics potato), topped with a little mild grated cheddar. Total cost, I estimate, about £1.10 or £1.15 for the whole pie.
Will report back upon tasting! Have taken photo too.0 -
Sounds interesting! You will have to report back on the taste test!0

My mum used to make sardine curry if she came home from "the dancing" a little worse for wear. It wasn't that bad, really. Your recipe reminds me of this....Val.0
