My other half likes them drained, mashed-up with a dash of tabasco, spread on top of some toast with sliced cherry tomatoes and then grilled for a couple of minutes. BUT he's only allowed to do this when I'm out for the day as I can't abide fishy smells OR tabasco _pale_.

My dear departed Tiggy-tiger couldn't abide sardines (though he would claw your hand off for a chunk of kipper) but our long-departed dog, Sandy, adored them. Tinned sardines, sild, pilchards, brisling, mackerel, kippers, salmon and tuna were her idea of doggie-heaven but her breath always stank afterwards :(.

I'm afraid i'm not convinced :p I think what's made me a bit funny about fish is that my grandma used to make fish pie for us and it was always full of bones. We ate as much as we could but hated it. My dad had to have a quiet word in the end as we just couldn't eat it :(

I'm still a bit wary of fish/bones now...I made a fish pie a few weeks ago and was really cautious eating it so didn't enjoy it at all.

What made me 'funny' about fish was shopping for fish with my nan when I was little. In the 50's many fish shops were 'open windows' with fish slabs (sometimes even outsde the shop ) and these were 'child's eye height'. The sight of those 'dead bodies' with googly eyes and shiney scales PLUS the smell of fish always made me feel ill. I would cry to stay outside the shop till she had bought what she wanted. I was so bad about fish that it was the one thing I was never FORCED to eat. Always had to at least TRY meat, offal and vegetables but not fish.

Aww bless! We went on holiday last year and there was a big fish market in one of the places we went to. I'm weird and found the fish heads quite cute and even took a picture of one (it had cute teeth!) :o

I've got no problem touching them, but I didn't realise this was possible as assumed they'd be really small? Hmm, maybe i'll go at them with a pair of tweezers!

    Thanks for the suggestion :)

They aren't that small they're about 2 to 3 inches long I'd say, you only get about 6 in a tin so it wouldn't take very long. If you don't mind touching them you won't need tweezers, they'll already almost be in halves so if you just pull them apart you'll be able to remove the spine (which I think are the only bones left in them when they're tinned anyway) from each fish in one go, simples!
Sorry if that sounded a bit graphic though, you do know they won't have heads on don't you?
Personally I don't know why you're bothering I think the bones of tinned fish are the best bits, esp sardines and salmon, in fact if they sold tins of all bones I'd buy them! :D

Doesn't sound too bad, i'll give it a go one day! (I wasn't sure about heads, but my dad has confirmed there will be none as I asked about eyes :p)

It's more of a texture thing with me to be honest, i'm not fussy with food and i'm willing to try most things once. I'm the same with mushrooms, can't stand the texture, but don't mind the taste or smell.
My stepmum used to buy tinned salmon and the bone through it just looked vile. Maybe I have a mental block on bones! (no rude comments thank you :rotfl:)
