I have to confess I found opening a Barclays Gold Isa very trouble free compared with Natwest. Even though I already had an account with Barclays it was still less hassle than Natwest. The account was open straight away and ready to recieve cash.

With the Natwest account I had to wait 24 hour before the account became active. And opening the Natwest online bank account was horrenous.

After reading some of this thread (well it is a long one) I decided to go for it.

WOW - How quick was that!

I logged on to Barclays and clicked the Barclays Golden ISA and it took me just over a minute to open.

I opened it with just £10.00 just in case it wasn't straight forward.
Followed that up a minute later with the other £3590.00.

Very pleased with ease of transaction.

I've just had a thought.

Other (bank/BS') ISAs I have opened, I've received a certificate for.
Does anyone know if Barclays issue a certificate for this one ?

I opened my account on 8th April. Didnt get a certificate but yesterday got a written confirmation of the opening of the ISA. It simply states your name, address, DOB and NI number as well as the deposit you opened the account with along with the conditions of ISAs.

Hope that answers your question :)

The only Cash ISA that I've ever received a certificate from, since they started, was last year's Halifax fixed rate offering - perhaps it's a building society/former building society thing?

On second thoughts, that can't be the explanation, as previous Cash ISAs with former building societies Birmingham Midshires, Abbey and Alliance & Leicester have never been acknowledged by anything other than a letter with the relevant account details.

Phoned Barclays, 9am appointment made for 2 days later for myself & my wife, both out of the branch by 9.20am, all signed sealed & delivered.
    I don't call that "hassle".
    I call it "service".
I wouldn't. I'd call it hassle. Why did you have to wait two days? Why did you have to go to the branch at all? Why couldn't you open it from home, by phone or Internet? How much time did it take to get to/from the branch (x 2 people)? How much travel and parking cost? Even if zero time/cost for you, perhaps because you both live or work within walking distance of the branch, it certainly wouldn't be zero for most people.

PS And they make you dial a rip-off 0845 number for the privilege of making an appointment to give them your money.

That's because you already have a Barclays current or savings account, something that I, for one, am not prepared to do.

It should be possible for all of us to open a Golden ISA in a few minutes, as you did. All they have to do is take the initial payment by debit card, for example, or allow it to be opened with zero balance and then credited by cheque or BACS. But, unlike most of their competitors, they don't. Why?

Mr Grumpy....oh sorry Mr Gumby, You don't call this service? I really do not know what planet your a living on I'm afraid to say. I do not mean that to be offensive but I am just a tad astonished at your comments.

If the previous poster said he is happy with this service like many others then I don't see how you can't say this is a good service from the best ISA provider this year and also one of the biggest banks in the UK. Barlcays has corrected it's mistakes from the previous and improved this. Althought asome people, and let me say it is the minority of people, would like internet access to open the account then this is their choice weather or not to go ahead and open the account with barclays. If they do not want to do it in branch with a professional and under no obligation to take out any other products then it is their loss as far as I am concerned and they can feel free to take their £3600 elsewhere.

(just to let you know I do work for barclays)

No, I don't call it service. While some people might like to spend their time phoning, travelling to and sitting in a branch, others do not. Some will live a considerable distance from a branch, even a ferry-ride away.

So, by all means make in-branch account opening an option, but why make it mandatory, especially when so few of your competitors do? All you have to do, to open an account by phone or Internet, is open it with zero balance or take payment by debit card. How much would that hurt dear old Barclays?

    My Barclays ISA saga continues.
All I want to do is open two ISA one for my wife and one for me.
Having been told I would have to wait 10 days for an appointment in my branch.
I registered for ON LINE banking. Telling the operator this.
Much to my disgust he tried to sell me home insurance.
The registration process started in its various stages.
11 days later I finally get all I need to register.
as its a joint account I went on line to get our ISA's only to find that each of us must register to be able to apply. I still cant fund the ISA without transferring funds into our Barclays account. quite simply I am going to give up and go else where.
So much for the leading interest account.
I will be less than £4 worse off by going to the next best. I have already lost this in Barclays delays.
    NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!
