Hi can anyone help me please
daughter has moved to Spain to work and I can only phone her on the works mobile phone which starts 0034. I am on virgin media when I phoned them it was 49p a min or if I pay £1.50 a month they will charge me 22p a min I was wondering if I can use another number or is it only if you have a BT line.
    very confused

    Hello

If you google "prepaid phone cards" then you can use one of these as a third choice after 18185 and the 0871 dialthros are stopped by Virgin.

In the past I have used them, some are not brilliant, hidden charges and maybe 30 or 90 days expiry. Best for long chats rather than brief calls(connection charges) They often have 0800 numbers that may beat the Virgin block.

Thanks for all your replies I tried the 0871 number and got through with no bother much much better than 49p a min.
    thanks again

Using 18185 from a BT landline, it'll cost you 5p connection and 6p/minute during the week (2p/minute at the weekend) - exactly the same as it would cost you if she was in the UK.

As she's abroad though, it'll cost her a lot more to receive the call though.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

slaps Heinz wrists ( hard ! )..............you should know better
    Mr telecoms expert!!! lol

she can buy a minute bundle ( 13p at the cheapest for 200 ) from Voda & use in conjunction with Voda Passport or else pay 75p a min incoming!!!

Roaming partner : SFR - Receiving a call 75p per call
For each call received that lasts longer than 60 minutes, a 20p (inc VAT) per minute charge applies from the 60th minute onwards ( includes payt minute bundles )

she will have to manually select SFR in France as the other 2 roaming partners do not do Passport only 75p a minute

    Voda passport http://www.abroad.vodafone.co.uk/index.cfm?do=cost.passport&me=a1&nu=1&le=1&sn=s7

    Minute bundles : http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=template10&pageID=PPP_0011

if its mostly off peak calls they are 10p standard off peak rate not 13p in bundles so dont buy a bundle

Whilst I readily accept the slap for an incomplete reply (I have a PAYG mobile myself but only use it once every six months to keep it 'alive' - so know very little about them), ruddoug09 asked for the cheapest way he could phone his girlfriend's Vodafone PAYG mobile roaming in France.

His best route is 18185 from a BT landline - but she'll have to pay extra one way or another.

  • Sorry if I've missed anything here but can anyone tell me how they actually get to make a call using Teletop?

After paying my £20 up front I have only managed to make one call to Switzerland. All attempts to call France (my main reason for joining them) have been fruitless as I get a recorded message telling me to dial 00 before the country code. Doesn't work!

Can anyone help me here please? I have been trying so long I suspect I'm timed out on the 90 days allowed. I want to think it's not a scam of some sort.

    Hi,

I always use prefixes to dial int. calls & mobiles etc. but my sister has NTL cable - can she use these prefixes as well and are there any other call charges applied if she does?

What is the cheapest way for her to call a landline in Australia?

Help & time much appreciated - thanks!
I would love to be lazy but can't find the time:exclamati

Cable landline users cannot use prefixes like 1899.

Virgin Media (the re-branded NTL/Telewest) is progressively barring access to gateway providers' numbers so as to force subscribers to make calls via Virgin Media itself.

She may be lucky and find some of the 0.5p/minute or 1p/minute 0844 numbers on the MSE International Callchecker still accessible - but she may not.
