Just a quick update. My email has been passed from Dom's Head Office to my local branch. So I'm just waiting to see what they say.

I also called HSBC last night and told them my card details may have been compromised. They were very helpful and cancelled my debit card, issing me a new one next week.

  • This is very interesting. I always order dominoes online and pay via my card, don't think I would physically tell anyone my details, though.

Don't think anything would have happened to your details, but nevertheless , better to be careful and get them changed anyway. Can't wait to see what happens about this incident.

I have worked in Dominos quite a few times before, and it is easy if you are in a rush to accidently complete an order without marking it as paid. If it is not really busy usually a manager will change the status of the order, but if it is really busy, they might just leave it. The person who took the order says to their manager, "This has actually been paid for" and they or the person routing the drivers says to the driver "Ignore the sticker, this one has been paid for" and everything is fine.

It really sounds to me like it was the driver trying to rip you off, I really can't imagine a manager dealing with this situation the way you describe. It is very easy to go into the till and find a reciept with your order number on it if you have paid by card, so they could have easily realised you had paid. When you pay over the phone they put your details into a chip and pin machine that isn't connected to the ordering system in any way, so even if it is marked as unpaid on the screen a reciept will still exist. Two are printed out, one to go in the till and one for the driver to give the customer (another reason they know to ignore what the sticker says).

Definitely go to the store and speak to the manager, even if the person you did speak to was the 'manager' that night they could have just been running the shift, and the store manager might offer you a freebie to make up for the way you were treated. Dominos is very much of the opinion that the customer is always right, I was always giving away free things to customers who hadn't had a good experience.

I've just sent a follow-up chaser email. I'll let you know what they say.

My new debit card came in the post today too. HSBC now seem to use Visa Debit cards instead of Maestro so the card number has completely changed.

I've just received the below email from Domino's Head Office:

I have now passed your complaint over to our Head of Operations here at head Office who will chase the franchisee for an immediate response to this.

We will be discussing the problems with your order directly with the franchisee and we will do everything in our power to make sure this does not happen again. We will be addressing the way that your complaint has been handled by the franchisee and the fact that he did not contact you as he advised. We would like to assure you that we did not find this acceptable and we will be taking steps to make sure that does not happen again.

So, still no response really. :D
