I got £3800. Applied for Plat, got Classic. The lowest limit I've had for several years. Had more before, had more since. I just thought they were a bit tight compared with other providers.

A friend applied for Plat and got Plat. But she got a lower limit (can't remember exactly what now).

How long did you wait for answer about getting acceptance or decline?

I got an instant decision and credit limit by telephone.

IME, most lenders (including Capital One, Egg, HBOS, Mint, Tesco and MBNA) give instant decisions and credit limits online or by telephone provided that you have a good credit history and they can verify your ID electronically via the electoral roll. ;)

thinking back we didn't get an instant answer (should have been on-line). It came through about 5 days later.

I would strongly advise him to enrol in that case. It's free after all and everyone's credit rating improves no end once registered. You'll avoid all this suspense and uncertainty plus having to send documents by post when you apply for bank and savings accounts, as your ID can be checked electronically ;)

Credit card companies normally use the electoral register to verify an applicant's ID electronically. If your OH's not eligible to vote, the best solution is to send all three credit reference agencies proof of residency and ask them to add a note to his file to verify this.
