For all of you with a smartphone (?) I've discovered a great app that lets you photograph any piece of paper then send it to a computer via email saved either as a jpeg or pdf document. It's intended for people who lose receipts and I've been using it for my business receipts but I'm thinking it will be useful for copying any plans for the house and giving you an idea on here....
They're too big to fit in a scanner, y'see.0 -
My chickens seem to moult in the cold too. Silly things.
Today the garden gets it. Attacking theneglected wisteria and weeding through the long bed.
I cannot mat h my fancy wood stain, which is a dark greyish greenish bluish colour. I have some exterior blue paint, and think i might paint the wall behind the pears with that its a half height wall with fence above, the fence is the dark colour. I would rathe rhave all the same colour, but most of the wall will be concealed with planting next year so....0 -

Well Saturday was weird. Went to change trousers so I could dig and heard the wind lashing the windows; looked out and the sunny day had turned to a snow storm. Did some chores indoors, looked up and we have sunshine again. Cold though, froze me toes. So yesterday I pulled out my neoprene wellies - toasty. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

RAS I will pm you later. If the seeds have gone AWOL I can send more, no problem.
On the subject of hazel cuttings, I've not heard of anyone having real success with those, but the bendy shoots can be layered with good results, I think.
When increasing my named varieties of hazel, I lever bits off the side of the stools using a wide wrecking bar made from a scaffold pole. It's a bit vicious, but the result is a plant with roots. I've kept these in pots for a year to become fully established, and if I didn't have this blooming bug ATM, I'd be planting them out right now.

Popped out to look at the newly weeded half of the border. It looks very bare now, lol. Plus, lots that should be pulled i haven't had the heart too....hollyhocks at the front of the border etc......
So i am having a rummer moment and wanting to sow some anuals to gap fill.....what do we think...too early still? Mild at the end of the week and most of winter.....tough annuals...like more poppies? Where a ant growns the weeds have competition .....0 -

Plant them, go on you know you want to
I know i want to but will they germinate and survive?!
Also, i am going to be ready in the next week or two, to turn my attention to my first wildflower planting area. I know rhiwfield has some experience with this!
I want to sow and plant just wild flowers, i am confident the grass will recover from my prepping and encroach from either side in future years and want the area flower rich, not meadow proper. Its at the side of my drive, and the idea is to look beter than natural.....like no make up makeup. The area gets full east sun, full west sun, part gets shade from the south sun from two very, very old elders whoch were cut back last year to hedge height...so can have some shade tolerant stuff...like bluebells, at the back, and some sun lovers at the front...more poppies!
I want a ript of colour, and advice on where to buy seed cheaply....i hope to aquire lots myself to, i have some from last summer but not enough is welcome! And bulbs....where to buy native bulbs not plundered from wild at a decent price.0 -
