Went to see the architect yesterday. I can't believe how far what I considered a tidy sum for renovations won't go.... Hmmmm.............

Ctc, i have no idea about using an airgun in a residential area. It is however, allowed to kill foxes. I would not want to kill one in spring, lest it were a vixen with cubs, so if i were going to call my neighbour to shoot one for me, i would be clling him sooner rather than later.

However, i am wary of people taking a pop at something snd not doing the job properly. A proven good shot, fine, otherwise ghastly.

Davesnave i am supprised you cant put the polytunnel down as a business expenditure, as this is a core hub for over wintering, starting young plants etc, which is key to any gardening business.

It's not 'plant & machinery,' but a new structure, being fixed to the ground by about 3 tonnes of concrete. If it was portable, like the ones raspberry growers use, it would be 'plant.'

Re-covering an existing tunnel is OK, as that's repairs, as is replacing fencing, but again, new fencing doesn't count, because it's a new, immovable structure.

That's how I understand the rules anyway, but I'd be glad to be told I'm wrong. :)

Just out of curio why cant it go down as a business purchase?

I find all the claims weird. E.g. Not vlaiming for dh trip back from brussels, because even though i quite legitamately coupldn't do stuff for the business, physical stuff, it looks like a trip home. Also, if i could claim for stables being built i could quadruple my income which would let me employ someone full time ...but i cannot. Its very annoying.

I was wondering about the advantages of setting the annexe up as a holiday let -v- having it as a granny annexe. Especially as we have letting properties already, so there wouldn't be any new systems to set up and a lot of the expenses already exist... Need to speak to the accountant.

Just wondering, Where would we stand legally ( not morally) with popping the fox with an air gun ( or wouldnt the air gun be gowerfull enough) If we catch it in the chicken run again?
An air gun isn't powerful enough to kill a fox at all. You would more likely wound it.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

After years and years of not having any trouble with foxes, we had one around last night and it took out some chickens and ducks:mad:

Ohhhh! Nightmare....:eek:I suppose you have to balance the cost of extra defences against the possibility of further attacks. :(

I don't think an air rifle would be powerful enough.

Although we paid ££stupid to deter Mr Reynard, and it's worked for us so far, we still don't take chances. If one was really determined it might get in during daylight, so we welcome other people moving around in the immediate area, which helps. Just the other side of the stream, a farm which doesn't have anyone else quite as close, has suffered a fair bit.
