I have a neighbour who is close to going that way.
Mr Paranoid jumped out on me an hour ago, demanding to know why I'd been looking at him through binoculars. I asked him how he knew I'd been using binoculars, because I'm sure I couldn't see him properly from that distance, even with binoculars. There are trees in the way.
Maybe he has a telescope? He has one on the high power rifle he uses to dispatch deer. (Now who's paranoid? :rotfl:)
I do look though binoculars; the last time was Tuesday. At present, it's usually because a sheep is close to the fence and I want to know if it's motionless because it's trapped. Otherwise, I'm seeing if the hens are all in bed or what the buzzard, magpies, crows etc are up to.
Anyway, I got the threats all over again. He's talking about breeding dogs and making the pens face our way. He really isn't happy about me working near his end of the land, but I can't have a no-go area on my own property, can I?
I tried to calmly go through the assurances about his tree cover all over again, but then I added, "But if you do what you've just threatened me with, the whole bloody lot will go!"
On the one hand I'm annoyed with myself for almost losing it with him, but on the other I'm thinking, "These people only respect others who deal in the same coinage."
Ahhrrrggghh!..... This isn't what I came here for.:(:(

Dave my sympathies - it' s a very tricky situation. I also lost it the t'other week & looked like the one in the wrong but I've been extremely provovked.
I try & just keep well away as it's a no winner situation.
If you have a community policeman/woman I'd approach them & get them to have a qyueit word, cjhnaces are they know this bloke - that was the case here - it makes them settle down for a bit!0 -
Oh dear Dave. It's all getting a bit heated down your way.:(
When we first moved here we had some real problems with one particular neighbour. We even considered taking him to court but then realised that his problem had nothing in fact to do with the things he was taking issue with us for.
To cut a very long story short the basic reason was that we represented change in an area he thought of as within his treasured patch.
We just carried on with what we were doing, making sure there was nothing that he could actually find any valid cause for complaint with. After the main work was finished, & he realised we weren't doing anything wild & wonderful, things steadily improved & we've all had a very friendly relationship for almost 20 years now.
I'd never have believed that possible at one stage.
Fingers crossed that your problems end in the same way.0 -
Oh, no. Neighbour disputes were always somthing I liked to avoid as a lawyer - there was never happy outcomes by the time litigation was being considered. Is there any consilatory action you can take? What is he worried about really?
I can see why it happens though. This place we're looking at has been the subject of a boundary dispute and it seems the former owner (now deceased) may have tried to adversely possess the private lane at the back of the property. The boundary is very "soft" in the sense that it's tres and hedges which grow over time!0 -
hi all...im off to have dinner at my sons new place ! he's cooking !
catch up later.
davesnave... is there another neighbour you can trust to ask if this guy had problems with the previous owner of your place ?
or if they know his problem [ie. miserable old s*d whos wife left him ,after years of misery, for a gorgeous hunky toy boy....??:D]
also dont forget if he plans to "breed " dogs as he threatened there are a LOT of regs these days !!;)0 -
Thanks for your understanding folks.
Yes, we're making changes close to MrD's borders, but we've done it as sensitively and slowly as anyone could, keeping him informed. Most of what we've done is a minimum of 45-50m from his garden boundary, but it involves thinning a vastly overgrown hedge up to 15' or more high and laying what remains, so it can't be done surreptitiously. So, apart from the truly idyllic field landscape he enjoys, he says it's now possible to see some large ag barns and my polytunnel, 200m away. If he can see me outside the back door, holding binoculars, he must be able to see our house too. Oh dear!
But you're on to it, Rozee; what the guy's really worried about is stuff inside his head. Over the past few years he's spent out, creating new outbuildings and adding such heavy gates that the pillars collapsed and had to be re-built. :rotfl:His semi -circular fortress is finally complete......when along comes Dave, who creates a weak spot.:o
I've spent some time looking up info about profiles of hardened noisy dog owners, and what I've read is scarily accurate. It has to be a special kind of person that inflicts that on others, like the nice couple immediately across the road, with whom he's 'friendly.' Yes, they're hacked-off too, but unwilling to act. Can't blame them... and yet I do.
Anyway, I think contacting the community police person is an excellent idea, choille, and I'll do it tomorrow. We have no 'dispute' and I'm determined not to have one, but laying down another kind of boundary marker is something that makes real sense. Thanks.0 -
also dont forget if he plans to "breed " dogs as he threatened there are a LOT of regs these days !!;)
Thanks. Yes, I'm onto that as well, but that really isn't how I want to play things, unless forced, as I'm not exactly a goody-goody myself when it comes to bending council rules;) Pot-kettle-black etc.
I'm pretty sure the new outbuildings don't have planning, discharge directly into a watercourse etc. As they aren't causing me grief, or pollution, I'm fine with their existence, so long as what they contain doesn't either.0 -
Ooh, here's one that we nearly looked at a few years ago, but we didn't......:(

It was then £389k, but what really put me off was the A40 being about 250m away. I couldn't quite square that with the agent's description of its 'tranquil location.' (It's not where the pointer takes you, but in Shoal's Hook Lane on the other side of the A40, just before the railway.)
I like (small) railways, and at £325k we would have looked!
Wonder if it's more tranquil than where we ended up? Dogs? A40? Dogs? A40? Doh....Best not to think about it!0 -
We live right next to the M4. It's surprising how you don't notice the noise until it goes quiet. Whilst I'm aware of the traffic sound, I don't really *hear* it. I do hear the birds and the chickens and the rustling of the leaves etc.
So, although I'd prefer not to be next to a busy road, it doesn't really encroach on my enjoyment of the natural world around me.0 -
