I just dunno, but I've been offered three almond trees and don't know where to put them. Its a shame to miss the blossom from them if I can have them nearer the house or yard....any body know what the magic distance should be?
If this is right, then don't worry about it

bees go three miles I think.
Ahh...so not a problem? I might take the risk. I could then use them as a windbreak on the south side of the yard....which would also screen the agricultural buildings a little from the road...not a problem for me, but nicer for passers by.0 -

Combe Hay, Wellow & Freshford are all lovely (and with equally lovely prices to match!) Around Iford is a bit special too. I used to fish in those areas, back in the days when they'd not been 'discovered.'
I'd often fool a trout or chub at Iford around dusk. There's a statue of Britannia on the bridge and, fishing there, it always felt as if one was being watched!

There's an amazing variety of fish in the Frome; even Barbel & Tench. Most coarse fishermen dream of catching a 2lb Roach. I got mine in the pool below that bridge, but if I'm honest, I foul hooked it when spinning for trout.:o It was the size of a dinner plate, and about as much fun to catch!
Iford Manor, with its Italian-influenced architecture would be a good one for you, if you've not been already.0 -

Been to the well stocked nursery/plant centre near there but I haven't been to the Peto Garden yet....I REALLY want to though and keep saying so at home. Its only about 15-20 mins from here, Iford. I'm still amazed by the number of places I can get to and back within an hour here. Its staggaring.0 -
I'm very, very excited. I was out, but when I'm out there is usually someone else here, today my dad.
One of the things I often say is I want a garden that, like my mothers, people want to stop and take photos of because it makes them happy. Well, while I was out someone stopped and asked my dad if they could take pictures of my sunflowers. OK, so its not amazing garden design and planting yet, but it made someone happy. I feel ridiculously proud. Just wait till I've started it properly, eh!0 -

Its lovely when people genuinely compliment your garden
Party of ramblers the other day were pointing out our apples, pears and french marigolds, made me feel quite chuffed.
Busy morning breaking up more pallets then off to Penarth with Gds. Walk along the prom, picnic and ice cream on the pier and a walk back along the beach. Weather was hot and sunny on the coast, nice French lady let us have some factor 50. All very laid back, old fashioned and charming.0 -
evening all...
iv had a lovely day today... firstly serviced my generator and re wired bits that had "shook" loose. also changed battery as pre one was shot ! my local car accesory shop ordered it at midday and rang me at 4.30 to say it was in !! good or what.[it was a special size one]
then i have cut back all the dead/dying/overgrown plants and hacked back the hedge out the front. like you say its great when people compliment ones garden ...but takes a lot of work here as i have lots of "departments" to my garden. i keep adding areas and then realise its more work !! i have planted an area around the shack so that should be good for next year. tomorow i intend to move my chooks [and finish off fencing them in thier half] and then tidy up thier old pen so i can move "bubs" in. chooks are getting a shed and another area. then i am moving the greenhouse chooks to another area....its like musical chooks here at the moment..
my friend now would like some pygmy goats /alpacas for in her fields!! so im on the hunt for ones that "need rehoming".... fun fun fun
p.s. i pay about £75 for a big truck load of hard wood, approx 3 loads does me all winter
pps. i always have flowers in my house every day of the year. if all else is s**T they always cheer me up ! [never pick my garden flowers tho...]0 -
We did another major IKEA trip today! 6 hours, but 2 hours in the middle were lunch with DD2 and the Twins which was fun... OH crawled around the floor after with some napkins to pick up all the food the Twins chucked - it's a game to them! :rotfl:
After the initial shop for offer on chest of drawers (bought and paid for before lunch) we were just going to pick up a few bits of bedding... But then found dressing table have been watching for (it's not even on the website) so collected that... And then to the bargain basement bit! Leather settee cheap that both of us really found comfy to sit on. Complicated to arrange as OH already had one of those big trolley thingies with the dressing table package (and a load of other stuff) on it too.
Have to say IKEA staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, and also always have a smile.
Helped to checkout and then for one of our trolley things to the home delivery - sofa too big to fit in car.
Was so great to get home and sit up the top of the garden in the last of the sun with a G&T and relax after the whole business! :rotfl:
We want to make a patio up the back of garden that will get sun longer than the lawn does... Or maybe another small lawn? We're both knackered, and OH has even begun to build my dressing table - think it'll take several days (drawers always a prob).
To get more on topic the chard is pretty lacey, and some of the kale looks very small. Dug up the onions yesterday and they are carp. But we were late to plant and it was a very dry spring.
On the more positive side OH planted some saffron crocus yesterday, just for fun.
Belated Happy Birthday to Alfie, and hugs to all the Daydreamers from Liverpool.0 -
Cor, maggie and alfie, you've been busy!
I think I'd prefer rhiwfield's walk along the prom, but either way, all I've had is grass cutting, potting-on and other rather tedious tasks.....plus visitors. I don't mind folks coming down here for their hols, but it slows everything down at a time when we really ought to be flying....
Speaking of flying, here's a piccie of Ozzie the Australorp looking his best and catching an admiring glance from a Dorking that's heavily into her moult. We think we have a winner with this guy!
I will try to update my photo blog thing soon. It's months behind because my 'puter needs a Windows re-load and it isn't handling the files from my newer camera very well at present.0
