That's a brilliant idea! I was going to say Irfanview is good for resizing pictures, but I've no idea about video at all. :o

Wood avens is liable to seed around a bit, Maggie. Are you sure?

I'm fairly new to this thread (I love threads like this, I'll do my best to try and keep up).... out of interest, CoolTrikerChick: What's the current status with your daydream challenge?

We had a local farmer decided to split his land up into small plots and sell them off. I think a few people thought they could buy the land and eventually get planning permission, but it's in the middle of nowhere in a very beautiful part of the country so it's unlikely.

Some of the plots were around 1/3 of an acre and sold for £3,500. It might seem steep, but this is in the South East with good access (although no water).

If we were going to stay here for the longer term, I think we would have certainly considered it.

    Its tough keeping up sometimes!

It hasn't spread since last year that I can see. I like to have some wild flowers as well as garden flowers... Though some I do regard as weeds, we have a big toughie growing all over the place that we haven't really had time to tackle yet. Am intending to introduce some ivy leaved toadflax on the patio walls - took me years to get it going in the back yard here, and I love it.

Besides, the wood avens stops the devil coming into your house if you hang it by the door, who could resist a plant like that? ;) Medicinal use too as well.

I'm hoping to make our parking area and orchard into wildflower gardens. Inevitably...edges between that and the other gardens (veg one side, front the other) will not be rigid!

Know this better as Herb Bennet, naturalist friend (sadly gone) told me that it was a great favourite of bullfinches.

    DUUUUURRRRRR !!! iron i think...

Sorry I missed your earlier reference.

Reason I asked is that mediaeval iron would not have been in such good condition if buried. Made me think it was more likely to be relatively modern.

It's definitely a copy, or a idea of what something should have looked like long ago :D
Otherwise the rivets would have been real. And shields I'm pretty sure weren't made out of cast iron :D

DH wants a suit of armour. we both quite like the IDEA of reinactment....but never have tie to go anywhere and not sure if we'd like the reality. we have thought about getting costumes/tack and just going for the occasional hack in them:rotfl::rotfl:. If I :rotfl:could sew decently I'd have a whole load of costumes though....

but its all so expensive....as an approximation of an old side saddle the south american ones are the best I've seen pictures ofhttp://www.peruviantack.com/saddles.html (see second from the bottom of the saddles). with the old style bucket seat (''modern'' european side saddles have a flat seat and really old side saddles you literally were lead while sitting sideways with your feet at the same height on a plank. Bridles are easier.

Getting period agreed is also hard though...Baroque or medieval....or costumes for both:o:o.
