Lovely cushions & bags CTC. Don't buy zips that are rubbish & pack up as folks will get annoyed.
I agree with dave about the price of the ruin, it's a money pit too - bit like a croft!
Alfie that's terrible about the nicking of your fuel & stuff, but great about the insurance co.
RAS - I haven't had such probs with pecking before - but the hens are penned & I'm not too keen on it, but necessary. The Scot's Greys are roaming free & Caligula the !!!! is a nasty devil. I carry a whippy stick when out & watch my back!
I think that penning them isn't too good & especially the Orps as they do love to roam. I feel cruel. Think it would be healthier if I could let them roam, but can't at the moment.
Spent Mon in a Travel lodge in Inverness that I booked a couple of weeks back - really cheap. I went thro on the bus & had a day on my tod shopping ( Mainly window). It was so hot all the lilac trees were heavy with scent & blooms as were all the blossom trees - wonderful.
Came back & really terrible fire a few miles up from Braemore junction - popular walkers' glen. Miles & miles are burning really fiercely, flames 40ft plus in the air & miles off the track. It's really a disaster. There's all brownish clouds in t'other direction, Gruinard now. I hope it's not another fire but does look that way. I don't know how they'll do with the glen fire but use helicopters again. We don't have rain forecast until Thursday but could do with it desperately.
My backs killing me & knees - pavement bashing & thwaking bracken since getting home.
Hope your feeling better dave & Mrs Dave Dave & sales go well for all. I'm so behind with tasks I could weep but what's the point will muddle on.0 -
So maddening about the oil and equipment alfie, but good that you have decent cover. It sounds as if there are some dodgy folk doing the rounds just now.Hope your feeling better dave & Mrs Dave Dave & sales go well for all. I'm so behind with tasks I could weep but what's the point will muddle on.
Thanks choille, but we aren't mended yet, and in fact I cancelled our place at the plant sale today, so the organisers will have a chance to give someone else a go.I'll tell lostinrates, as I was hoping to see her there, though she's 'on leave' just now.
I'm afraid we just did the minimum today to keep the pots watered and the place ticking along. I managed to hoe through our new beech hedge as well, but had to sit down afterwards!
I know exactly what you mean about being behind, though in our case it's more a case of not attending to paperwork and things like that. For example, stupidly, we haven't joined a few organisations that would give us access to selling venues here. I'm now seeing events almost on the doorstep that we can't take part in. It's partially down to the fact that we weren't ready last year, and also thinking we'd been wiped-out by the weather, but my forward planning should have been better.
As you say though, we'll muddle along....:)0 -
Don't beat yourself up dave - you're allus busy & getting big jobs done. Sorry you're both floored still. I had a nasty cough, chesty & head thing & took ages to get clear of it - rest up, only way as it drags it out.
Beautiful evening. Just back in after sheep stuff & the midges are there a bit.
Feel jiggered so slumped infront of telly with fat cat.0 -
P.S..... the doves/pidgeons had indeed gone back to thier previous home!!! my 5 are still here tho....0

My thoughts too! Anyhow, both of you get well soon.
Alfie, so sorry to hear about the thieving gits, its a real kick in the stomach when something like that happens, just glad your insurers are on the ball
I've been trying to find some r-pins to repair one of the gh autovents, so in meantime propping it open with wood. And after diligently putting all tender plants in gh last night with frost protection heating just in case, woke up this morning to see wood still propping open the vent0 -
Davesnave...... you make sure you both dont over do things...and both get better soon....
Just wish we lived closer, so we could come and help... or do something... I dont know what, but if there is anything I can do, you know we are here...
Wen..... nice to meet you:beer:...I must admit i look on etsy and folksy and there are so mega talented people selling on there...I would be afraid that if someone bought off me, and didnt like my make it would be bad for feedback etc.
Alfie are you serious???????? lol.... about my stuff..??
Sorry to hear about hte thieving twonks.... i know eactly what you are feeling... but as Davesnave said, good job you have a good insurance company.... I would def make it know around the area that you have had stuff stolen, as someone might get offered it for sale in a pub...
Rummer... good ideas, but i must admit, unless i got a tutorial on youtube or a blog somewhere (and then its got to be a really good one..lol..) i am naff....
The good thing about making things with welsh blankets, they disguise the wonky sewing lines;)
Ras.... thats a good idea.. i will leave some of hte make-up bags without the flowers.... the ones on the bags are on brooch backs, so can easily be removed....
Rhiwfield...... fingers crossed, but i think your plants will be ok....Work to live= not live to work0 -

Just thought i would share my latest loophole thing;)
I have applied for an M&S credit card..... which has 15 months 0% interest...on purchases
I am going to max it out by buying their sterling travellers cheques, which will only be 1% charge, and then plonk them into my lloyds advantage account.. pay the min payment each month, and on the 14th month( to be safe...lol..) pay hte remaining balance in full, so not to pay any interest..
As this money only cost me 1%, i will be looking for the best place to put it to get interest...
BUT!!!!! it is also a cheap way of getting a loan too;).... but you MUST!!!! pay it off before the interest starts to be charged...
most banks do not charge for you to deposit the travellers cheques into your account, but just check first...Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC you're amazing when it comes to these financial loophole things! :rotfl:
I too think your stuff will be OK, rhiwfield. If frost protection was on, cold air leaking in would be warmed a bit before it could do much damage. We didn't have a frost (overcast) and our stuff out in the unheated, doorless poly looks OK.:)
We are not really beating ourselves up....too much. Last year, we were in no fit state to do plant fairs and, if truth were told, we still aren't, but the fact that we could soon contemplate one or two local ones neans we're moving in the right direction. That was our problem before; never enough stock.
Still feel wobbly, but I'd feel worse if we'd cancelled the event and I felt better! Same goes for DW, who is much improved (until she goes outside!) and telling me off as I type this, but I'm not sure what for!
Haven't exactly walked far in the last few days, but I did look at a damson that was almost barren last year, and it has hundreds of fruitlets.:D I suppose final yield will be down to how much water & sunshine it gets. I'll look at a few more things today. The quince that succumbed to something last year is back, looking healthy after the 'short back & sides' DW gave it, so I'll try to ensure it has more water this summer.
Rambling now.....time for a sit down, except I'm already doing that! :rotfl:0 -
CTC, do you have any kind of heavy cotton/twill or a waterproof fabric (maybe the stuff people use for tablecloths - not too heavy weight)? And some wadding? Then you could make kneelers or sit-upons to enjoy outdoors. (Or cushion covers either - but I prefer the thin type for outside). Put the heavy duty fabric on the bottom (I don't know - welsh blankets may be suitable themselves?), a layer or 2 of wadding, and the blanket on top. You could add a carrying handle to make it look really "posh".
If you had one of these alongside Rummer's idea of a twine/tool kinda waist pouch, that could make a lovely set for a gardener. And even one of the other pouches with the zip to hold seed packets too. Just set up differently. (If you have a proper trug to set those out in, and put a few spare seed packs into the pouch, it will make them look totally different then to the makeup sets on a display - while still using the same bag).
