Dave, how big did you Goldensweet mangetout grow last year? I've been looking at the realseeds site to find out how big they and the bijou will grow and I can't find the info.
I'm trying to find space for the champion of England pea, a difficult prospectFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

You mean how high?
My original ones came from HDRA and another lot from the USA, have not ordered from realseeds as I save them year on year.
They will happily grow to 5 foot and might make it higher if I watered them more carefully. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Hi
Not sure about bijou, sorry, just Golden Sweet. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I think my Golden Sweet Mangetouts got to around 4' 6" last year, when they probably ran out of stick! They might have got to 5' as RAS says, but I burned the sticks and replaced with new, so I'm guessing.
This year, with the Bijous, I've got sticks taller than 6' specially cut for the job. I think they said they might go to 7' or something like that, but anyway, they can only have the sticks they've got. I'm also growing another pea called Delikata for comparative purposes.....
We couldn't keep up with the Golden Sweets last year, so I don't mind if the Bijou produce a bit less.0 -
weve had doras legs/hooves x rayed and its def her LEG BONES that are out of kilter not her hooves. something that happened in her 1st year of growth apparently.... as for DORA she was fine till the last trim [last week???] they are on the shortest of short grass... cant do more??
i have biggish chooks but they are all a bit goopy so cant see it being a problem...will sort a "stand by just in case" area tho....0 -
well we went to Hurst Castle, got the little boat from keyhaven and it was lovely. not too hot but the sun shone...:)
it was SO interesting looking round the old place. HUGE canons and fantastic views from the tops. if anyone of you get to the coast, do take a look. it was £3.50 return on the boat and about £7 to get in but BF has a English heritage card so we got in free....:D
going to "old boys sheds" tomorow night.....YIPEE :T

One of my black orps has been fiercely pecked about the head, another less so, but I've put them in another pen with their own house.
I've just sprayed its head with antiseptic. It is a mess but what else can I do? Quite shocking the severity of it.
Sad news today - a crofter who has been through the battles with a few things lately ( as we have been too) wife was taken ill & she is in hospital & not expected to live for long - really puts things in perspective.
Really want to get the house done this year & looking hard at how to finance it as cannot go through another Winter in the caravan - so have a cunning plan - that will be another battle no doubt.0 -

Ah, Hurst....the site of one of my better practical jokes!;)
Long, long ago, in a time when I was fit,:o I'd take school parties to Hurst......the hard way! We stayed at Milford, in an awful hotel, managed by an awful woman who carried a poodle under her arm.....
....but I digress..... I'd tell the kids we were going to walk to a castle, so we'd set out from Milford along the cliff top, then drop down and start trudging on the shingle. As you'll know, that's OK for 10 minutes, and then all the sinking and sliding starts to hurt. For a long time, the castle doesn't seem to be getting any closer, so it's quite a test of stamina.
By the time we reached Hurst, the kids would be collapsing on the ground & grumbling about their legs, while I'd pretend that it hadn't stressed me one bit! I'd point out cheerfully that we still had to go back again, then do my guided tour in the Castle. It's an interesting place all right, and perfect for school parties, as it's well nigh impossible to lose anyone.:rotfl:
At the end of the visit, I'd march the human crocodile out of the entrance and along the seaward facing side, on the pretext that we simply had to walk all the way around the outside before setting off home! With a bit of careful timing, the boat I'd bookedfrom Keyhaven would arrive without any of the kids seeing it. Then, just when all the grumbling about the prospect of the return walk was reaching a nice crescendo, we'd round the corner, and there would be our salvation... :j Yes, those kids knew what gratitude was!0 -
No frost, temp went down to 5C and was 10C in GH, without frost protection needing to cut in.
Will remove fleece from over the outdoor peppers and toms, sneaking feeling that I may have accidentally covered the entrance to a bees nest so it could be interesting :eek:0
