LIR - Excellent the hens back & was just brooding.
Got my egg cooker today - so will have a read up as confined to quarters with this awful hacking cough that's becoming a pain - literally. Could do without it.
Gonna attempt to claim a refund from Royal Mail for package not received - so that'll be a rubbish way to spend a dull, overcast but perfectly dry afternoon.

Does your local compost facility give the stuff away or make a nominal charge? I'm not sure what happens in this neck of the woods, but Bath was (as usual!) expensive in that respect.:( Wiltshire was OK though, and that was a private outfit.

Also where did you (or others) get your anti-pecking rings? We have a Dorking that's recently taken to pecking feathers randomly from other hens, so it might be necessary to go down that route for a while. She is even taking feathers from Top Hen, so it's a bit of a worry!

Our local one gives it away atm, just hope that lasts.

Anti peck ring from Domestic Fowl Trust. Only £1.50 for 10 including postage.

    Choille,
dont want to be mother hen (not equipped anyhow!) but that sounds a bit like a chest infection and worth a visit to the doctor.

Well I worked my wee socks off today :D

I went to the garden center and bought some herbs to fill my herb garden and I have decided that the plot next to it I will make into a healing garden. This is something I want to research properly so I am going to take my time.

Then I began the miserable task of weeding and tidying up the front garden. Mercifully things had not developed deep roots but it was tiring none the less and my wrists and knees are sore (I am so unfit!). A few plants didn't make it through the winter so I have bare patches to fill.

Been looking at the back garden today and I have decided to move the raspberry canes to the side garden and then next year I will develop a sunny border and the following year the shaded border so that my back garden has interest all year round. I will need to hit the books to get things the right size etc as I have only ever grown fruit/veg.

Well done choille. Your health must pretty much be the lynch pin of your circumstances! Taking care of it is vital.

I'm just exhausted. Next weekend is already planned, we have to have a look up in the loft and get old junk, and straw bales out and check that there is nothing living up there. Pretty sure, other than some birds, there isn't.

Been doing a rhwifield and have terraced some beds with uneven sides, so they point more Southwards. In fact the beds angle much more Southwards, I read somewhere that every bit you angle them S you effectively move a bit further down the country, early planting wise.
Although I'm not sure about the effectiveness of this with frost.

-2.6 in the greenhouse last night.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

No idea what it was last night. I put my pelargoniums out though....in time for this weeks bad weather. I'll probably have to haul them back in.

Tomato seedlings doing very well indeed, peppers sown and a few aubergines. Its amazing how ever early I start I always en up chasing my tail with sowing!

The soft fruit temporary bed looks really good happy with that.
