Its knee nobbling cold here,
got a busy day today, we can start setting up another vintage stall instead of tuesday, will just throw some old army stuff on rails and take that down to start with, as we have been so busy in work, havent had time think about and set up a display..to go down there..
Well we nearly won the lottery last night only needed another 5 numbers:rotfl:
This year we were planning on hatching out quite a few chickens and ducks, but think its best to only do a small batches in our small incubator, until we know whats happening..
Have been thinking of phoning some of the local farmers to see if they want to sell a bit of land... think i will think about that a bit longer...lol...Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC - Do you know what an incubator would cost me - one that does the lot, moisture etc?
Do you think that you could sell your place easily? After the third Winter in the caravan- I wouldn't recommend it unless you can afford to throw money at builders to build it for you.
I got three eggs today - yay.0 -

Definitely get that sort. We bought an octogon 20 (we weren't thinking big!) last year, to replace an old style manual one...and its ace. we had a 100% hatch rate...even though the temp ran low for a bit. I highly recommend it. Prices differ wildly online....0 -

We had to put up 'Sold Out' signs yesterday.:o
We've had some weekly orders too, yet a couple of weeks ago we were giving them away.
It will take a few years to get a feel for how many hens we need, but it's beginning to look as if people will seek out good eggs, as we'd hoped. I suppose the trick will be to keep the same quality as numbers increase. The guy we recently bought our eggs from let their quality slip, and we certainly noticed.0 -
Thanks LIR - I'll try googling.
Dave - Quality is all. Goodness knows what some folks feed their hens? The yolks on the Scot's Greys are orange. Eggs all around the Highlands are really good. Not often you get a pale egg even in caffs.
Well just about dark, blowing a hooley & rain hammering down - must go feed the wooly ones & put the feathers doors down.0 -

we found this one to be the best small incubator
http://www.ascott.biz/acatalog/Brinsea-Octagon-20-ECO-Auto-Turn-PY400.html
it on a cradle so you dont have to worry about turning the eggs,
they are alot more expensive than other makes, but they are the best, we have a covattutto sp? and i dodnt find the success rate as good as the brinsea...
We buy all our stuff from ascott.Work to live= not live to work0 -
Well we did it! We finally got out and working in the garden today
. We cleared out the weeds from all of the tyres and 2 of the raised beds and also got one of the long beds dug over. There was also a general tidy up done, as our garden seems to be the stopping point for the wind, so rubbish is always blown into it.
There is as always still loads to do but I feel good that we have started a little bit each day and we will soon be sortedTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

yep, same as mine.:)0 -
Thanks CTC - sounds like THE one for me - now all I have to do is get some more clutter ebayed & pennies saved. Not as expensive as I thought. Was told a good one would cost £300 - so that's good - seems attainable.0

If I manage to get the raised beds ready in time this may be possible as I hope to deter slugs using as many means as I can.0
