Look like a cold'un again tonight. Apparently we hit 7 degrees to day...it was beautiful....but one of the troughs kept a skin of ice. OK its against a north facing wall but still, that's some stubborn water.

I'd love to do a preseving course. especially for veg. I'm good at jams, jellies and fruit cheeses. other stuff gets frozen....I'd like a dehydrator (could you ''gate sale'' dried apples, or does that need a health and safety something or other??)

Looks like you just got your wish on the course front! ;)

You can gate sale anything you produce, so long as it's not processed in any way....so technically, "No." I can see this makes sense, bearing in mind the freedoms of gate sales compared with the restrictions on traders, WIs etc..

Choille/LIR, I'd guess the course covers the range, headings on website are:

    How do I?
    Can
    Freeze
    Dry
    Cure & Smoke
    Ferment
    Pickle
    Make Jam & Jelly
    Store

Thank you, that's a very helpful...um.... list, rhiwfield. As my memory's so bad, I might just need to bookmark this page! :D

Well, I thought we'd finish cutting and bonfiring the hedge trees today (we are keeping all the decent-sized bits) but no, it looks like we'll need at least one more day. Good job the weather is set reasonably fair.
I'm definitely feeling out of condition tonight! :o

Very cold here today, the cats water is a solid lump of ice in the container and the car was frozen. It's a heavy white frost over everything.

rhiwfield - great subjects. Like Dave I should book mark the page. Our neighbour smokes things - meat, cheese etc. He's been on at OH to build a smoker, but other things are a priority at the mo. Apparently things like discarded dishwashers from hotels are good - I don't know, seems like we've dragged enough scrap down her already.

Quite cold but dry. so out doors raking & carting sacks about - I'm making a simple job back breaking & complicated. I have to lighten up!

Marthadartha - where abouts are you?
we had a frost this morning but nowt really. It's coldish but pretty windy & dry - quite envigorating really.
Missed Ed Farm as I watched the thing on BBC 4 about Hattie Jaques.

Heavy frost this morning, very heavy. I let the horses out on the bit we're saving for spring for an hour: it was so frozen they couldn't do any harm :(.

Beautiful and sunny though. -5 predicted tonight. So....:)
