Hi Alfie - I don't know of any local stables. But camping is always possible.

Thanks for the concern. It is an infection, I was at the minor injuries unit and felt it start tracking up the finger. :)

That'll teach you to play with Strawberry in the slurry pit :D

Lostrinates sorry to hear about your hand, at least you have it all sorted now!

Choille that view is stunning, I can totally understand why you are putting up with a chilly caravan in the meantime. Alpacas would be a great thing to have in the future if and when you have spare pennies.

Dave shame the ferret didn't make it, they are amazing and entertaining animals and I am always sorry to see the number handed into rescues, maybe if your DD decided to get some she could rescue some?

Our garden looks lovely covered in snow and we have been looking at it through the window today and planning how to develop it in the spring, I am still reading my way through the Alys Fowler books and really loving them. We have our raised beds for organised planting but the rest of the garden is going to be all mixed up with fruit, veg and flowers so it should look beautiful or a disaster lol!

Hi Dave - What a shame for your DD. Goodness how long do ferrets live? She sounds sensible taking the responsibility for her pet since 14. I think that's a great thing.

Bournemouth eh? Wonder you didn't fall off the end & end up in France - wonder how far that is from here? Bet it's like Summer down there? Only jesting - I go a bit funny when it's cold.
Bournemouth is almost sub-tropical compared with the Highlands, but today it was blooming nippy. While it's hardly like the Caribbean here either, I did notice it was warmer when we arrived home.

Ferrets live about 7-8 years and they make good pets for busy people, as they sleep a lot of the day time and they actually like living in cages, provided the space is large, and especially if they have a changing variety of toys. Ours would go for a walk for half an hour or so, and then race home, eager to get back to 'their' terrritory. When living here, Eric would amble cheerfully, unaided, from his night cage to his day one, a distance of 25m, every morning. It's about security really.

They're not pets for younger kids, though. A ferret can be wilful, so training needs to be kind, but also firm & consistent. They can't be bullied into behaving!

DD2 is fine thanks, lir & choille. She's a natural 'animal person, , so had an arrangement in place with a B'mouth vet for when this time came. Good to hear you have some antibiotics lir. I know from fishing accidents how a little infection can spread rapidly.

There was a couple here who kept ferrets - she just left & he has to get rid of everything, came round here with a list of all their aniamls - racoons even. It's very sad - can't understand why he needs to even get rid of ferrets as I would of thought they could even be kept in a bedsit if need be. It's a strange thing - people are keeping their eye on him as he's acting really weird....
    That's someone's dreams down the swany & I don't think he's taking it well.

I didn't realise that ferrets live that long. Wonder if they are related to Martens.

I think the weather is bad throughout the country. I just do hope it doesn't go on as long as last year nor gets as cold - we broke records last year with how low it went. Thing is we were still getting snow in blinking May & we had a rubbish Summer & we had snow weeks ago - whinge, whinge, whinge about the weather - that's what we are good at.

It would be nice to have a good growing summer this year, I felt like I was just so behind due to the weather and a few things that we did plant just didn't have a long enough season to produce.

Rummer - I heartily agree with that. We had such a humid few months for Summer we had botritus [sp?] on the fruit. Things didn't get going apart from a few things. I pulled out the pea vines just the other day - we hardly got any, but it was filled with flowers & underdeveloped pods. I did throw some in the soup, but the sheep got the vines & actually really liked them.
My tatties wern't great this year & my onions had neck rot. My carrots have fly..............I've left them in the ground.
    My beetroot are miniscule.

Alfie - there are two females & a male. They seem shy - went to see them one evening as I'd never seen them before.
