Hey, davesnave.....we've exchanged.
do you still do any fairs etc round your old stomping ground?
It is to pretentious to have a (mainly) white flowered front garden...its going to be the only pretty bit for a while....0 -

Fan-Blooming-Tastic News!!!
White, pretentious? Not at all! Used to know an artist in an exclusive Wilts village who had a lovely white section in her acre of garden. Unfortunately, it's off-limits now; she couldn't afford the National Trust's rent any more!
Still, no renting for you, and no more traipsing around on viewings, or living out of boxes. Oh, this is such good news!!!:):):):):j:beer:

well done!!!!!!
sorry i cant do the party things like our Davesnave.... but i am grooving in my seat for you......lol..
its sooooooo nice to hear people are moving....
one day....one day...... hopefully that will be me too........
even if its in a caravan in the middle of my own field..:rotfl:
my chicks are doing well, the ones that have just gone outside, and the ones that are in the broader.... hopefully over the next week or so, we will have some more hatching.....
also i have my fingers crossed for the turkeys hatching too...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Thank you. Cooltrikerchick, DH really, really wants turkeys. We were looking for a fieqwld with a caravan, but we just lucked out with a house and it has enough land for us and our animals , if not the rather big business plans I had. I can take a few liveries to help with the mortgage though. DH certainly feels this is ''his'' house and so it is ''the one''.
We let our chicks out of the broody coop for an hour this evening. Amazingly the big chooks weren't at all phased and there was no bickering (I've never not put them in at night together first ). About half the chicks liked it but half of them hid in th broody coop. Scared of the big wide world.0 -

I heard last week about a couple, fed up with the ridiculous house prices here, who've bought a bit of land & put a caravan on it.....a caravan big enough to live in, but also capable of being moved with a crane at regular intervals....
The local council don't like this and are trying to stop them living there, but as far as I know, they are still resident. I will keep you posted.
Hermum, thanks for the heads-up on the eBay chicken house. I think it would be too small for us, but I will keep watching and ask DW....
It's a bit wet out there this morning, but the downpour we were promised hasn't materialised. Although there's lots to get on with, I'd be happy to see some decent rain (at night, of course!) as the rivers are very low. My 'ground water' in the post hole disappeared. I forgot that I watered the strip of land nearby ahead of the fencing! Silly old twit!:o0 -
thanks Davesnave it will be nice to keep track of whats happeneing with the people with the caravan.
as techincally its 'not' a perminant building as it can be moved...flip if we didnt have our teenage boys i would live in our little touring caravan....its got all we need, somewhere to sit, sleep, make food, and a toiliet and shower.. and the heater works in it too:T
i am sure we had a heavy down pour of rain last night, or did i dream it:rotfl:, but it is drizzling now....
We slept in late, so hubby is going to the farm auction late today to have a nose, i have asked him to get me something as a suprise:eek: so lets see if he does bring me something back...
I have been putting away £250 a month with lloyds savers account which will need to be moved soon, as its one of those accounts where you get x amount of interest only for the year, and then it drops like a sack of poo..
so its will be 3k plus the interest, so will be having a look out for another similar sort of savers account, to start again...
think i need another cuppa, as my brain hurst now as i know i have got to start looking, and thinking, what is the best may to make use of my money ( to make me money interst wise..lol.)Work to live= not live to work0 -
Hi all,
havent done much over the weekend:cool:
updated my blof after 8 months of nothing:cool:
i have sone some ebay listings, and to be honest they are going great guns, so i think i should go with the flow, and just keep listing certain items that i know will sell,
been looking round at the savers accounts etc, what a load of poo....
I think my best bet is to open up another lloyds vantage account that is still offering 4% on balances between 5- 7k, they also pay interest on balances below that, but i cant remember what they are :rotfl: as long as i set up a DD to make sure 1k goes in every month i will get the interest ( use the same 1k to gout and in again....lol...)
i have also got another bank account that i use for child benifit and little dd to go out of, and on quidco, A&l are offfering £100 for you to transfer your bank account to them, plus £45 cashback via quidco themselves...
I dont really care which bank i use......so will start the ball rolling to transfer and get £145 for my daydream fund:money:
i can hear the kettle boiling ( allways on in our house) so time for a cuppa
catch you all laterWork to live= not live to work0 -

Rubbishy interest rates are hitting savers hard, so well done finding these deals. We're still getting 4.2%, which is just about keeping pace with inflation, but we've had to do a 2 year fix to get that.
We are just registering as a small business with HMRC again, as we might as well have some tax benefits for all we are shelling-out here.
I am too tired to post properly tonight, but the chicken area is looking pretty good. We've also put up the ferrets' summer quarters.
More piccies to follow in a day or two.0 -

Our ISA rates are rubbish and its about time we shopped around. With DW serving out her redundancy notice (and laid up after an operation with another to follow in 3 months) we've been a bit cautious about locking in to fixed term rates until we could see what we needed to live on short and long term. The best thing we did with a few thou' was to get about 12% after tax return on the solar pv but a 25 year fix is a bit extreme!! The main pension pot is cash linked so thats lost ground to inflation, but it could have been in equities
Today got to sort out mobile charges, land line, sick note for DW, disability aids and blue badge. Ordered oil for this week at summer prices to fill up tank for next winter and will be getting in seasoned and unseasoned wood likewise.
On the positive side the chickens laid the first egg last night (unless there's a joker in the family as the hens are meant to be only 16 weeks old atm) and the soft fruit bushes are laden with berries. Stopped cropping the asparagus (bit early but didnt want to overdo the first year picking) from the 14 crowns emerged out of 21 planted. Some are still coming thru so I'll wait to see what finally comes up and fill the gaps in due course.
One of the new pear espaliers (williams) had one diseased branch which has been cut out leaving it lopsided. Hope thats got it and will have to train in new shoots.
Lostinrates, WELL DONE!!!!0 -
Welcome Jayne it is good to have new ideas and opinions! Your situation sounds very like mine. Once the debts are cleared I will start saving and until then I will do the best with what I have!
This is similar to us as well, except we are waiting until the boys are finished with schooling.
We have so far this year put up the greenhouse we bought a couple of years ago (secondhand) and have a good mix of things growing, although we were a little late in getting seeds planted.
We have :
cucumbers, tomatoes, chilli peppers and lettuce in the greenhouse
outside in the garden we have:
french beans, courgettes, butternut squash, carrots, beetroot, spring onions, garlic, more lettuce, more tomatoes
in pots we have basil, parsley, mint, potatoes
going in later this week will be leeks and sprout plants and peas
we also have an established rhubarb bed and wild garlic,
this is all apart from the rhubarb on the back garden, it was covered in couch grass, so dh has been clearing a section at a time as different seedlings have been ready to plant out.
Next year we plan to have potatoes, raspberries, blackcurrants and gooseberries in the garden as well.
There is also a large elder tree which needs cutting back but I will make loads of elderflower cordial first so it doesn't matter if it doesn't flower next year.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0
