CTC, atm we are getting our eggs from a local smallholder and she delivers any time between thurs and tues each week. So we go from glut to famine regularly! We've just come out of a glut where we had pancakes, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, and a tuna and egg pie.

Trouble is during the famines I miss my breakfast egg.

Wild turkeys? Thats raising the bar a bit!

lol...... they take a week longer to hatch, and we will hopefully only have them a few weeks, and then sell them on.... unless hubby decides to keep them as pets:rotfl:

oooo well, the bank holiday is over:( i was flipping freezing last night, had hubby to lite the fire and burn some wood.

got back into ebay mode last night, and listed some things.... really need to get my mojo back when it comes to getting extra money in for my fund....seemed to have got into a bit of a rutt over the last few months.....

I listed a certain item, and had 3 watchers in a matter of minutes....so fingers crossed it will sell...

going to try and put at least one item a night on to turbo lister ready to list every week on ebay...

i am also going to start a vintage blog, basically to just promote the things i am putting onto ebay, well you never know....it might generate some interest...

better go and get ready for work.....

hope everyone has a good day

That's a great way to customise the coop & run rhiwfield! I must admit, the door on the coop was my biggest concern strength-wise, but I can see yours would be well protected. There was no run on any of the models I looked at.

All the chickens look fabulous. Will try to post some new pictures myself soon - perhaps something from the polytunnel, before we sell it all next weekend!:rotfl:

Moved it yesterday, which involves undoing the lynch pins holding coop and run together, moving the coop, then the run, then refixing run to coop. It took just 3 minutes :) The worry had been that if it took say 15 minutes I'd be tempted on a wet morning to leave it in place for an extra day. Without the wooden base to the run its more unwieldy and would probably get bent/damaged before too long.

The wheel set supplied as an extra for the coop raises the height so the run height needed to be increased to enable it to fit with the locking lugs (hence the wooden sub-frame). The bonus has been the added rigidity and security. I was less worried about the coop door as it fits into a groove when shut so making opening by an animal pretty difficult. There is also a locking lynch pin supplied so this seems secure. The middle support frame for the run has been raised by the sub frame and looked uncomfortable for the hens to step on, so a wooden cover has been slipped on which they seem pretty happy with and often perch on it.

The run door is less secure and I may put an extra catch on this. The only other niggle I had was that there is one permanent open vent, which was on the windward west-facing side as I plan to use it most of the time. It took a minute with a drill to put a hole for the vent cover and switch it from the east facing vent.

Although there is a door at the rear, we find we are removing some of the roof lynch pins to put the drinker in and take it out, as well as sprinkling wood shavings on the floor. Its an ingenious design and very easy to open/shut. The rear door will come into its own when we give the coop a weekly clean. Luckily, after a first night of poo everywhere, they are all sleeping on the perches and leaving the nest boxes unsoiled.

With the three girls I think the coop will need to be moved every two days to prevent grass becoming too fouled, and as we have at least a dozen places to put it each pitch will have plenty of time to recover. They will also have the task of clearing and weeding the veg beds after cropping :D

Come autumn, it will be more difficult to move as the ground becomes softer so we'll mate the existing set-up with a long winter run along the hedge boundary, that can be rested during the spring/summer.

The main thing is that the girls seem pretty happy with the set-up and seem very perky, especially when they make a mad scramble for the coop when a pigeon flies overhead!!

Just as well the run and coop move easily. The chickens produce more poo than a herd of buffalo after a veggy vindaloo :D.

Sorry, he won't be there long......in more senses than one....so there will be another change,:p or two, or three :o

I've always posted more on the 'Debate House Prices, The Economy etc.' Board, so my avatar relates to that, but I could, perhaps, make it floral. Someone on the House Buying Board has their house advert as an avatar, so I could put up the dahlia I bred that a well-known plant company are not releasing anytime soon!:(

    There you go then.:)

Breeding dahlias is easy and the results arrive a lot sooner than with hellebores. It's not hard to achieve a nice flower, but the foliage & habit often lets seed-raised plants down.

They are sitting on this one. It seems to be permanently 'in trials.' In fact they've sat on it so long there are now loads of others, pretty similar. That won't bother them if they are not planning to release it, and of course, it stops competitors from acquiring and releasing it! ;)

I would tell the plant co. to take a jump, but I have another plant patented with them and a fair old debt to clear on that. If they release it in the USA, I will make ££ and clear the debt, but if not.....:(

Get involved with some of these plant companies and you may come to regret it. This one won't have any more from me.
