Anyway, thanks to Julia, faith is restored. I would like her to get some management recognition for her great customer service, so which would be most of benefit to her - writing to the Branch Manager or Head Office (providing my Dragon speaking software can actually spell her rather unusual surname!)?

    Thank you..

For this sort of thing, it would be best to go to the branch manager - especially if you know the name.

As a matter of interest, does HSBC charge you to dump your shrapnel in their machine?

    No, they do not.

Not if you have an HSBC account.

I don't work a branch anymore, so I don't do anything. But what I used to do was raise it in the staff's next one to one meeting (which might be every week for a seller, or once a month for a cashier) or take them aside and talk to them separately - just give general praise, tell them to thank the customer if they come in again, etc.

The actual letter would then get filed in their staff file or record of achievement. I would then consider it when deciding their next rating (A/B/C/D).

i used the coin sorter in hsbc, churchill way, cardiff today for the 1st time. took 2 trips in the end dumping £180 of coins. i managed to fill up one of their coin tubs too...oops.

i too got receipts and am still waiting for the deposits to appear on my statements(1hr later) so will wait a bit more.

one tip - don't put too many coins at a time. i soon learnt that. if the coin tubs in the guts of the machine gets filled it rejects all of the other coins so you have to start again once it gets emptied(10mins?).
