This is an old thread that for some reason has been added to. Perhaps it would be best to not post further and let it drop off the page?Gone ... or have I?0

I can't believe this guy...just goes to show how misunderstood mental illness is.
I've been suffering on and off from depression for the last few years and it does become debilitating - I absolutely hate it. Had to go to the GP earlier this week about it, and just totally broke down...I felt like such an absolute idiot for it, and wasn't behaving like myself at all, but it's like even if you're aware of it, you can't stop it...that's the worst bit for me. I could tell the GP was getting worried so actually had to play down the depression as much as I could. Is interesting what people are saying about the side-effects of anti-depressants. I knew the side-effects are bad, which is one of the reasons I flat-out refuse to take them, and have told GP's this in the past, but my God they don't half persevere with it . Latest GP also really "downplayed" the side-effects, which just put me off even more.
Why in God's name would anyone claim they want to have depression, or try and make other people believe they do? Ugh, it's totally beyond me!0 -

I am absolutely furious! As someone who has suffered with depression people like your friend make me sick. it is already so hard for people with mental illness as people seem to think its "just a case of pulling yourself together" or assume people are faking it to get some time off. It is NOT something to be used as a pitiful excuse to leave a job. Actions like this make it a million times harder for genuine sufferers. Rant over.
agree 100% with TL on this one - this person needs a darned good slap   :mad:Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Working as I do in Mental Health Services, I have to say it is so incredibly difficult for someone to fake a depression to the extent to be actually signed off work for it especially at the age of 18 without already having a history of it. It is hard enough for people with years of documented suffering to have access to the benefits they rightly deserve - he goes to his doctor, he might (depending on the GP) get some pills but he certainly won't be signed off long-term. Partly because people who initially present with low-grade depression would be far better working than being signed off!
I think he has his head in a very strange place and if I could take him out and show him some of the real suffering that is caused as a result of depression, he'd be very grateful for his Domino's Pizza job. Honestly.

i agree it is very hard to fake depression and more under the new ESA . it is very stress full to claim and you cant fake it anymore ! i had to sent many report from consultant, gp's, cpn etc.... and let's fce the ESA 50 and DLA form are very diffficult to fill in and you have to put forward evidence .
if you make a benefit claim the decision maker will look if you were diagnosed by a psychaitrist rather than a gp to confirm that you actually have clinical depression and nothing else. it is a long process and over many month.
the last 6 month i had CPN visited me 3times /week at my own home just to make sure i dont do anything stupid .
they are really perceptive and will know if u lie straight away ! so i will say to your friend be careful !BSC number 1830 -
Can't be bothered to read the entire thread.A friend i know has a big idea to fake depression so he can get put onto anti depressants so then he can quit his job due to depression.
As for irresponsibly wasting a GP's time and playing with his life by wanting to be put on anti-depressents - bit like playing Russian Roulette, really - so be it.
Now, I don't really think for one second your friend would really want genuine depression. Therein lies the irony.
Don't have anything else to say beyond what my brain is telling me to really say about what your friend is considering doing. I want to say what I think but won't.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Tell him to ask for clozeral - you need blood tests every week as it can attack the white blood cells - swells you up like a balloon - causes panic attacks may need another medication to lessen side effects - but may help his `depression`.Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.0

He's come to the right place, though. This board is riddled with people who think the mildest abreaction to life events is an open invitation to double their benefits and get on the the disability gravy train.
Bobbins tbf, never suffered?
They should all "snap out of it" eh?
It's the greatest pain known to man apparently?0 -
