Faking depression

I'm sorry but your friend is an idiot, and obviously has no self respect.
I suffer from depression that has been caused due to chronic pain I have suffered from for the past 3 years, I'm trapped in a cycle where chronic pain drives depression and depression increases the pain.
I take anti depressants, despite trying for as long as I could to combat it myself, and I still go to work everyday (this is nothing against those who are genuinley sufferring from depression and cannot physically face work). To think that someone of 18 years of age is willing to lie about a serious illness, that thousands of people each year fail to cope with, often ending in them taking their own lives is simply disgusting.
I hope he is caught out and given a severe punishment.
well said and I hope thinks become better for you. Well done on keeping going to work, its the best thing to do if you can in my opinion.Goals for 2010Current Credit Cards £4500,£4200, £4000, £3000Overdraft £1500 PAID OFF!0 -
I think this explains exactly why I don't really like people my own age
I'm off my volunteering job today with depression, spent the entire weekend crying and waiting for night so I could go back to sleep because it's easier than being awake. And to think someone would "want" this just to get out of a job at dominos sickens me.
It's no fun having no confidence; feeling like you're a complete failure; being unable to make a decision like what to eat or wear, especially at this age when everyone else is busy having fun. He can't even begin to imagine what it actually feels like.
I'm 19, and have been depressed for about 5 years, so I know what I'm talking about.0 -
Normally I'm a pretty chilled out person but after reading this post I can actually feel my Blood Boiling
This kind of thing makes me so *bleeping* angry for a number of reasons.......
Firstly my own situation, I'm working my backside off, 40-45 hours a week, but because I'm self Employed and due to the current Economic Climate I'm not even getting minimum wage - I cant claim benefits because I work too many hours and have no Children. I could go to the Doctors tommorrow and fake illness just to get some extra money but because I am an honest person I would not even dream about it... Instead I plod along, trying to earn extra cash by selling on Ebay and checking Job Sites daily for better paid jobs. If he's not happy in his job tell him to leave and free up the place for somebody who would benefit - there are so many people looking for work at the moment his position will be filled within hours.
Secondly, my sister suffered from depression and panic attacks for almost 5 years. It's not something that should be taken lightly - it took more than just Anti-Depressants to make her better so I hope he's ready for a grilling from a Counsellor when he has to discuss his reasons for him feeling so depressed.
Finally...there are also people out there who are crying out for help, from Doctors, and who dont get the help they deserve. Because of people like your friend (wasting valuable resources just to get benefits) Doctors just look at people as time wasters instead of treating them and offering them counselling. Why should your friend just decide that he is worthy of this help when he clearly isnt.
You need to show him this thread and maybe if he's got an ounce of decency he will change his mind.

If he thinks he will get more money by doing this he is mistaken, it is on parr with dole, plus it will go on record that he was on incapacity benefit and possibly will not be reliable in the future. Tell your friend that the doctors are not that stupid, they will see through him, even send him to see a cousillor who are highly trained and can see a scam straight away, the counsillor will then contact the doctor who will sign him off straight away. Then in future when he is really ill and needs a doctors note, he might find it difficult for the doctor to believe him.....Its like the boy who called wolf......
TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT IF HE'S NOT HAPPY IN HIS JOB, JUST PACK IT IN AND CLAIM JOB SEEKERS ALLOWANCE UNTIL HE FINDS THE JOB HE WANTS, THE MONEY IS THE SAME.....OR GO TO COLLEGE AND RE TRAIN0 -
i have sever depression alongside other mental health issue and this guy is making a mockery of a serious illness.
depression is amsty illness which not only affect yourselve but the people around you. let alone the side effect of medication.
i think your friend is seriously disture and if he think it will get an easy ride well think again. i have been admitted to hospital due to severe depression and it is not all nicey nicey down there i have came close of being sectionned.
if he manage to get some AD well he should be preare to get ill as they are not design for healthy people ! as my gp told my partner( he was worried about one side effect ) in high dose AD in healthy people can cause heart attack etcc.... .
someone posted that
Diagnosis does affect your future prospects: care work, police, fire brigade, army, teaching and a whole host of other jobs require an occupational health report which you can fail if it throws up episodes of depression.
that so true i am in the middle of being sack , i was a care worker and will be no longer !BSC number 1830 -
This is absolutely disgusting and very sick, ive heard of people having a bad back etc but this is sick, Depression is neither something that should be laughed about or mocked it is a very deep and sad sad situation and could also lead somestimes to the taking of ones life .

Francesanne wrote: »Can understand someone with true depression finding it very virtually impossible to work but find it hard to understand how some people suffering from so called 'stress & depression" can manage to do EVERYTHING but actually work. I know a couple of people who lead very active normal life but claim they can't work because of their problems and have managed to claim benefits for years. Maybe they just get stressed at the thought of having to work.
Maybe they can lead a relatively normal life only because they don't have the stress and anxiety that their job caused them?
My husband still has nightmares most nights about his job, five years after taking early retirement. There is no way he could go back to it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
it aint that easy on benefits anymore..claimants are rightly asked for evidence from a gp and often this is not enough so he would have a further medical This aims to weed out the shirkers as anyone with true depression couldnt even think about this sort of scam...you dont want to cost the nhs money in unused meds and he will probably regret it in the future as applications ask for periods of illness..depression is an illness and who really would employ him in the future..lets be honest there is loads of discrimination out there for mental health child age women etc and you cant really prove being overlooked for a job cos bosses are not daft enough to get caught out discriinating
get another job advise him and stop ideas about sponging...i wish I cud lie in bed on a winters morning watching Jeremy!!!!!!0 -
Perhaps this guy is a product of modern Britain he has seen loads of people get all sorts of benefits and he is just joining in.He will not have been inspired by his teachers at school and this idea is the best he can come up with.0
