"Jumping" CD/DVD player

How do you guys know all this?
Because the very first CD/DVD drive I ever installed resulted in jerky DVD playback, and the cause was... PIO mode instead of DMA. God knows why it happens - just seems to be one of those bugs that MS never bothered to fix (not an anti-MS post BTW, you get just the same sort of thing under Linux, though perhaps marginally less often).
Have fun putting it all back together...0 -
Morning
It looks like a DMA PIO issue. I have done a bit of googling; resintalled the Secondary IDE and they are both now PIO - AARRRGGGGGHHHH....
I will do a bit more digging but would very much welcome help in the mean time.....

Not something im well up on but change them both to DMA enabled. SHUT the computer down (Not a reboot)
Power up and go into bios and make sure that parts ok.
Boot up proper and see if the settings are still ok then shut down again
If that doesnt work im at a bit of a loss as it would mean you need to force it to operate, and I really have no clue how to do that:idea:0 -
If it DOESNT work id think about removing Mafee as that can cause all sorts of problems:idea:0

One last last thing: have you checked to see if there is a firmware revision available from Pioneer? I have a vague recollection that I had to do this on mine to resolve one of the issues, but it's so long ago now I can't remember what!
Edit: Just checked and there does seem to be an updated firmware dated 11 Nov 08:

@ fwor; I had already updated that.
Listen chaps; thanks for your help on this. It's now apparent that the issue is the DMA (should be DAMN) thing as my new drive, when in DMA, plays fine.
Looks like I'll have to open another thread to do with DMA and bother someone else for a few hours.
Peace out...Reassuringly expensive0
