I have about six on line bank accounts and have never had a problem. I have been banking on line for about 8 yrs. Smile banking has an excellent reputation but the rates are poor (0.12% in their current account). Egg banking is easy too but now paying very low rates. For instant access ING are paying 3% for their easy access account but this includes a bonus for one year. I think phishing emails are easy to spot. The first line often mentions that they need to check your up to date details.

egg is not really an online bank account (current accout) just a savings account and or a credit card. which is fine if you dont' want a cash card or cheques or direct debits.

yeah i was looking at thier savings account , 3% odd when i looked?

is it really safe to use ? i hear about paypal and ebay getting hacked everyday why is a bank any differant?

Ebay are getting a lot of false hack reports at the moment due to them being a bit over-zealous with sniping software, and ignoring their own procedures (ie. to phone a user when their account is used on an unusual PC)

I use Egg Money Manager personally, easy as pie, although it's not for everyone.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Forgive me, but how would your bank know whether or not you have written down your username and password and stuck it to your computer.

Simple...If the police recovered those sticky notes from a burgler who broke in and left swiftly to do money stealing transactions at his/her liesure !

I use Egg Money Manager as well and think it's great despite my initial concerns about security. All our savings, current account and credit cards are accessible through it and I haven't had any issues or problems with fraud. I probably wouldn't put it on a laptop, though. The single significant advantage is that I can check all my accounts easily every day and can spot any fraud issues instantly therefore.
