I've used online banking for several years now and have experienced no problems at all. I bank online with 3 different banks and am always security conscious, checking each account daily.

Most of the best interest rates are offered for online accounts, and you can check transactions regularly without waiting for bank statements. If there was a suspect transaction it would be spotted straightaway.

My advice is to go for it, but be cautious regarding passwords and security.

    Good luck

Id advise using FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin so you cant get redirected to a dodgy site

    FIREFOX
    http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
    NOSCRIPT
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
For most webpages to work they run 'scripts'
NOSCRIPT auto blocks ALL scripts. Once unlocked they stay unlocked.
The idea behind it is 'certain' webpages will use malicious scripts to infect your computer so NOSCRIPT will stop them doing so.
To use noscripts use common sense. For example ~ you would need to unlock certain things to see videos on youtube. But you SHOULDNT go unlocking any scripts on pron sites
I personally have mine set to NOT show blocked scripts. I simply look at the big 'S' (bottom right of screeen). ANY red in it at all means something is blocked on the webpage.

heres the plugins you might need ~
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7

Save the URL of your bank/s as bookmarks and go direct to them. Make all passwords etc quite complicated and impossible for anyone to guess

Ive been banking online for around 4 years with no problems

Don't replay to any e-mails or click on any links sent to you by the bank. The high street banks don't contact you by e-mail and on-line banks only send interest rate information and never ask you for your details.

Only use their on-line sites to access your accounts.

Same here - I'd go dolally if I couldn't play with my money 24/7. I feel much more in control [yeah that's a joke I know] of my finances. I also like being able to stick pending transactions into the system, saves me having to remember the oddball one offs. Heed all the advice given above re security and go for it.

Online banking is so useful, agree with the above posters, so much easier to keep track at any time of the day, no need to have paper statements (and then shred them to dispose of them safely).

I didn't even have to give my email address.

The fear of the unknown is often what holds people back when it comes to internet banking. I am ashamed that it took me so long to sign up because I wasn't convinced of security; once you get over that initial hump of distrust you never look back. It may be better for you to start with an account that offers telephone support as well.

I have banked online with 3 banks for a few years with no trouble

I always check for https and the padlock bottom right.

I also have an online keyboard too with Kaspersky Internet Security.

Saves trips (queues) to banks / pay bills etc. Safety of carrying ££ to pay bills etc.

Think about what you give away every time you write a cheque: your name, signature, sort code and account number. Similar scenario every time you hand over your credit card and they take it away for a few seconds to process it. You can bet that far more bank fraud happens via these routes than during online banking.
And the banks give pretty good guarantees against loss unless you have been grossly negligent, i.e. writing your username and password down and sticking it to your computer.
I've been using it with 2 banks for nearly 5 years without any problems. In that time I've twice suffered 'conventional' credit card fraud.
