So not even vets are convinced.
I work on the principle that I can't sell something I couldn't or wouldn't use myself and the Combo worries me. There are excellent alternatives that I would rather use. I use Stronghold for my cats and Prac-tic for my dog. Milbemax as a wormer.
  • Am I right in thinking that Milbemax cannot be used on collies and their crosses? I use panacur or drontal for my dog, but only twice a year in spring and autumn.

No. You have to be careful with the dose with Collies and not overdose but I treat my own collie quite happily. Most collies are 18 - 25 kg which is almost spot-on for one tablet

You would be breaking the law to bring in a prescription only drug from abroad. To sell a drug in the UK, it has to be UK licensed and follow UK law and you are not allowed to import anything without a licence from the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) which costs £30 and wouldn't be granted anyway for this. There are foreign websites selling fake drugs and just this week it has been reported that fake antibiotics have been found on a farm in Northern Ireland. Buy British.

Thanks for that, that would explain why when I ordered frontline combo without a prescription from what I thought was a uk website it arrived with a Barbados postmark!! I thought it might be bit dodgy when I ordered as it was so cheap, i think about 12 for £35, but thought it was worth the risk of it not arriving, then I did wonder if it was fake, but looked real, mind you doesnt seem to be working! I will be going back to normal frontline, as I have always steered away from anything that does the environment too, because I have children and dont want lots of pesticides in home, but vets try to convince you it is better product, they always look at me like Im over reacting when I ask about toxicity etc.

Personally, I would use Frontline rather than Combo and use a good household spray such as RIP Fleas or Acclaim. the whole point of Frontline was that it didn't have an old fashioned insecticide in, Combo does. I can't get the logic and because of that, we don't sell Combo at all.

Frontline doesn't kill fleas, I have found. In fact they were throwing parties on the dogs back. He was absolutely infested. Very reluctantly I have changed to Stronghold. I would prefer to use Frontline as it is tried and tested in terms of safety, but it was no good having the dog bitten to pieces. I'm a bit concerned about anything systemic though.

Snowman, what is Prac-tic, I've not heard of that? How do you feel it compares to Stronghold? And what are your feelings about Program?
