Observer - worse case scenarios

The board doom mongers should head out and get a copy of today's Observer - you'll love it. There is a 2 page spread on how bad things might get.

There's articles on:
* Stock market falling another 50%
* 4 million unemployed
* 40% more falls on house prices
* Effect of a US - China protectionist trade war
* Failure of the Euro

It found all but one online - it's probably there too somewhere.

    Plenty of punches being pulled there. They could just as well add -

    1) Failure of energy supply. UK has 4 days of gas left in store, the National Grid could easily fail again if a nuclear reactor goes off-line.

    2) Unfunded health care. The 'boomers' are now of an age that requires increasingly costly health care. There are now more people over 65 than under 16 in Britain; when the welfare state was created there were 5 workers per pensioner, now it's down to two.

    3) Social unrest. The Mohammedan population is growing at 10 times the rate of indigenous British people. FACT: Islam is a personality cult that at heart is based on 'convert or kill'. Thousands of 'British' Pakistanis have been trained in the badlands of the North-West Frontier.

    4) Food shortages. Climate change and the collapse of the £ will make food more and more expensive. England is the most densely populated country in Europe, we can't even begin to feed ourselves.

    I predict something worse than a riot!

    1) Where did these so called facts come from? Sounds like a source beneath even the Daily Mail or a misinterpretation.

    3) Christians once worked by convert or kill. Faiths evolve as do communities' birthrates (even supposing you unsourced figures are correct) and there is plenty of evidence that in generality moslems are not like that. How does this kind of remark help anyone?

    Imagine if they discovered that a huge comet was going to smash into and destroy the earth. I bet there would be an astromony forum where the doom merchants would be delighted that they were right when they said that we were all going to die.

    What Amazes me is how often "Experts" have called the "bottom" only to find it pulled from beneath there feet time and again.. The truth is no one really knows what is going to happen..
    Personally I think Q.E (Money printing) will have only a Modest effect, & who knows we have the spectre of perhaps another Set of Q.E, once merv realises that the 150 Billion isn't working ? I wouldn't be at all suprised if Unemployment rises above 3 Million !!..
    In some ways I feel this World Recession is like the Collapse of the former Soviet Block, We had East v West & that kind of Polarised the entire Globe, Once that melted away all the Tensions beneath the surface erupted .ie Bosnia,
    my fear is that with the ever deepening recession social Tensions will erupt in the u.k too, in the from of Riots etc, Just today ofcourse the "War" in Northern Ireland seems to have started again !!!!

    Thanks - you've just shown yourself up for the bigot that you are, and have done a far better job of destroying your own credibility on this board that any of us right-thinking people ever could.

    Thanks, that seems reasonable but the one on energy supply surprised me more.

    This is the sort of fear mongering that only truly ignorant people believe in.

    If shares and property are likely to fall by the same amount it seems much more sensible to invest in the later as the yields are much better
    I think....

    We've had a 20% crash so far, another 20% in the coming year.

    So you think things are improving then, only yesterday you were saying prices would fall 25-30% in the next 9.5 months (by xmas), but you went quiet when I offered to bet you on that.
