Britain can feed itself, it might not be nice food but no one is going to starve imo even if the euro fails, etc

Are you volunteering to roll up your trousers and plant the rice in the night soil?

Your theory is heading towards organic vegetarianism. With a bit of luck some of the vegetarians already living like this will die first.somewhere in the third world.

I am also a bit worried about the theory about more people supporting the army of pensioners. If breeding more people was the answer to anything Haiti would be paradise.

Have a play with this new toy I found today:

Not much to worry about in Europe, most of the countries are busy reducing their populations.

    http://www.breathingearth.net/

I'll leave you to click about and find the countries with the fastest rising populations of well educated technically savvy people, who will be able to defend the last 5 centuries of European inspired progress.

You can feel especially clever when you find the countries with a falling carbon footprint and realise how significant they are.

    Harry

Sorry I'm not very good at being ironic.

    Up late or early?

Colombia's carbon whatsit is falling. Have they started selling organic cocaine?

To be not flippant (for once) it's very interesting and a little disturbing. Thanks for posting it.

    Hi Generali,

Thanks for the kind words - see Australia gets a bit of a drubbing on the carbon front.
More f@rting & belching ruminants than big cars, long distances, air con & coal industry I would think.
I had an insight into the rate of growth of the "eco/carbon" economy last week - it is becoming very mainstream here in the UK. I will post something on a suitable forum/thread as soon as I get a round tuit.
I too don't think of Columbia as a country with a falling carbon footprint so I had not even tried that one. From memory Columbia has (one of?) the world's largest open cast coal mines; It used to belong to Exxon but I think they hived it off perhaps for public relations reasons.
I notice that Haiti scores the green indicator for falling carbon - perhaps they are so dirt poor that they simply could not afford to burn oil over the last few years. So they have gone vegetarian and had to return to chopping down what is left of their forest for cooking fuel.
"What has thousands of legs and eats bananas? A Haiti meat queue!"
The old jokes are the best; probably reads better if you substitute Cuba for Haiti, where the tourists get the meat.
(For those asleep in the geography class, Haiti is just South from Cuba)

    Harry.

On the sleep front; I've got into a nasty cycle of collapsing in front of the moronoscope and waking up to a picture with a little person in the RH corner waving their arms. I then realise the PC is still switched on so I have a "quick" look to see if anything is happenning and get a nice clean connection to MSE.
Any luck on the job front yet; you are in danger of turning into the NDG (RIP?) intelligent comment substitute.

    What happened to NDG?
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

Lots of air con use here. Petrol is cheap too and in many suburbs it's pretty unpleasant to walk. For example, I'm 500 meters from the local shops but 300 meters is walking on the road with no footpath. That's not so great when you're managing a couple of pre-schoolers. I end up driving as I want my kids to make it through the day - I would never have done so in London or Kent.

On ABC Local we have a carbon emission statement for the previous week at about 9.15am on a Monday with a breakdown. Usually it's about if the weather's been hot and people have had the air con on or if it's been cold so they've had heating on. They also make a point which is that a chunk of electricity produced in NSW is used in Victoria (VIC). Who should carry the can for that (I ask retorically)?

I suspect that both the UK and Australia will emit less carbon in the near future as their economies fall off a cliff. It's funny, people are likely to bang on about greenery less as they become greener. It's not that helpful to jet off to Peru for an environmentally holiday, Much better only to be able to afford Brighton!

Good rambly post old chap. Good to know I'm not the only one awake at silly o'clock your time (sensible o'clock mine though).

She disappeared AFAIK. I know she got a couple of very nasty anti-Semitic PMs - her OH is from Tel Aviv (? Israel certainly).

I guess she was chased away unless anyone else knows differently.

    1) Where did these so called facts come from? Sounds like a source beneath even the Daily Mail or a misinterpretation.

    3) Christians once worked by convert or kill. Faiths evolve as do communities' birthrates (even supposing you unsourced figures are correct) and there is plenty of evidence that in generality moslems are not like that. How does this kind of remark help anyone?

There have been plenty of news reports over the last 10 years regarding lack of planning for energy supply.

Faiths evolve, and Christianity appears to be further along the evolutionary path. Let's hope that the extremists do not have significant support.

    Hi dervish,
Was it you that posted an entry about evaluating a forum discussion for how long it took for someone to trot out the "racist" card in an attempt to stifle comment?
I think it might have been specifically in the "anti Semitic" context.
Someone had given the technique a name.
You can you repeat it or post a link to it?
I personally think every one has a right to an opinion, even some posters who seem a bit unhinged - like the guy in the You Tube clips who used to rant about STRs.
Most of us can make up our own minds about the truth and the motives of the poster.

Interesting chappy. I actually agree with a lot of what he says, I guess I just don't have the vitriol, hatred or organisational skills to do a You Tube video about it.

Don't get me wrong, I think all religions are crazy, mental and wonderfully pointless. They all have their fair share of wacky ideas, but (if we're referring to the subject of that video) then I'd state that Islam is one of the wackier of the relgious bunch. It's a difficult topic to discuss on an internet forum though. As a pretty staunch atheist (although not that vocal as we have Richard Dawkins as our poster boy who's set athiesm back about 20 years as far as I'm concerned) and humanist if you ask me the question "would you like to see an end to religion" I'd say yes. But would I ban religion? Different question, and the answer would be no.

I don't like McDonalds, Westlife, ITV, the woman who does the breakfast news on BBC1, that paperclip in Microsoft office products, wraps (eat a sandwich, stop being poncey), the cost of tea in motorway services and a whole heap of other stuff. But other people like those things and it's a free country, so go ahead. People who engage in all of the above are cool with me. Who really cares? I kinda feel the same about religion. It's not for me, and I think it's mental, but it's over there with horoscopes, tarot cards, psycics, Britains Most Haunted and all that other stuff that never really makes it on to my radar. Islam does score a few points with me as I think Mosques are beautiful buildings. I find it very odd when you see people whinge about them being built, yet they are happy to have another Tesco Hyperf*ckingstore on their doorstep.

When I meet someone who is a Muslim, Jew, Christian or Jedi I can honestly say (unlike the guy in that video) that I don't think that's what I define them as in my head. In the same way that my wife owns a Westlife CD but it doesn't keep me awake at night or define who she is.

I have no idea where I'm going with this. I kinda liked that video in the small way it appealed to my atheist side. I just feel that an atheist such as him, with such passion and vitriol comes across rather ironically as just like a religious preacher.

Oh, and I don't think Derv is some knuckle dragging, skin head, passionate national front idiot. I do, however, think that he's got a bit caught up in thinking that immigration and foreigners are the root cause of a lot is what is wrong with society, when in fact they aren't. But this is fairly common for people who find it a bit difficult to raise their intelligence to find complex solutions for complex problems, hey Derv?
