You're an inspiration Moozie!
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
This was me a year ago...moozie wrote:I know I'm probably not alone in feeling too scared to sit down and work out all my debts but I don't know how to snap out of it.
I desperately want to make changes to my life, all the usual stuff I gues - buy a place, get married, be able to afford a holiday instead of putting it on a card but I've been buring my head in the sand for so long, I am scared of the total figure once I add it all up. I am scared it will be totally beyond what I ever imagined and that I won't ever be able to re-pay it. To make matters worse, every month my salary goes in and then I am overdrawn within a couple of weeks. Feels like a vicious circle and I can't see how I will ever be able to re-pay anything.
It doesn't help that my OH is not good with money either and that has led to us having a huge overdraft (not sure how much but I'm guessing about £3,000). Whenever I try to talk to him about us sorting our finances out, we end up arguing. Not blaming each other as such but we just don't agree on how to manage our money.
I'm sorry for posting such a depressing post. I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago thinking it will help as I have no one I can talk to about money worries but I already feel a failure as I am still not doing what I am supposed to.
Well, things have moved on for the better over the last 12 months
I am amazed that I am still working hard to be debt free. There was a time last year when I was having difficulties sticking to being DFW that I thought this would be like any diet I had started before: start enthusiastically then get tempted by naughty foods and in the end justify giving in because life is too short and all those other excuses!
I now know exactly how much I owe (£7,546.07) and to whom (A&L OD, Tesco and Sainsbury's loans) and when I will be debt free (Nov 07) if I decide to pay off one loan early. I also know exactly how much I've paid off in the last year: £10,486.53 which is quite an achievement for me!
I am now not scared to open any letter and in fact only recently we bought a filling cabinet for all my filling needs
Things of course have moved on for the better in other areas; we are now engaged and we bought our first house at the end of last year. More importantly though, OH and I are much closer than ever before and we talk about finances openly and honestly
We are hoping to take a holiday later in the year - nothing fancy but we both need a break. We are saving a little each month so that we can pay for it in advance rather than over a long time afterwards
It hasn't been an easy ride but I really feel like a proper DFW/MSE now which is fantastic! It's so nice to gain back control over my life!
Thank you very much for all your support through the last year. Champers and snacks on meLeason learnt :beer:0 -
Wow is it really a year ago already mooz?
Time flies when you're having fun eh?
You've done incredibly well. Brilliantly.
I was thinking as I read your original thread about the house, the debt paid off, the fact that you've said before that you & OH are closer and OF COURSE the engagement!
If ever there was a bright shining beacon of 'exampleness' on this site, you're it.
