Going it alone

OH and I currently have a DMP with CCCS. Started this in September 2008. We owe 39k to several creditors between us. I have now started full time employment :j and as such we can now afford to pay our creditors more money.

So our plan is to leave CCCS (who I sould add have been good) as we are now going to be able to pay more per month to our creditors than our original contractual amounts.

So I plan to keep this thread updated with our progress.

List to do before contacting CCCS

1 Work out our full monthly budget
2 See where all our debts are at (ie DCA original creditor)
3 Plan a DFD and aim to reduce it

So wish me luck and I would appreciate any advice from anyone who is also going it alone.

You can still carry on through CCCS paying more. I'm in a similar situation and had a review with CCCS recently and upped my payments quite considerably. However, if you wish to go it alone, then good luck with it.

If you debts are with OC or DCA you should know as they would have written to you to let you know - CCCS will be able to advise you any way.

  • Thanks Deep in Debt.

I know 3 debts are with DCA but we have recently recevied more default notices for others so not sure if they are in the process of being sold off.

I'd wait to see if they've been sold off - as I say, they usually write and let you know. I've had default notices a year ago, but debts are still with the OC's, am waiting for them to be sold on.

  • Thanks for that. I assumed if they defaulted they got sold on.

  • OKay not actually got far on my list. Been back at work has knocked me for six I have been soo tired I have not had much of a chance to get online.

Anyway M&S wrote a few weeks back saying they would default us. On Friday they wrote to say they have agreed to our debt management payments for 12 months and will only sell on if we are late in paying these. So good news on that front. (however these payments will increase very soon so hopefully they will still agree)

We have 2 debts with 1st credit. They have agreed to the reduced payments on the Citi debt and after threatning all sorts with the MBNA account sounds like they are going to accept the reduced payments on theat too. So hopefully we have staved off court action from them

Not sure where we stand with the others. Have yet to notify CCCS of our plans to go it alone. But intend to in the comming week.

  • Still not got very far. This working for a living is really hampering my online time, however I have this morning emailed CCCS. Our plan is to go it alone from May.

Going to try and do our May budget today. House is like a tip paper work is every where it is going to take me forever.

No further letters from creditors so far.

Will update when I hear back from CCCS.

  • I have tried to do it alone and have now decided that using the cccs is better as you dont get creditors letters/calls etc.
You can always update your plan with the cccs.
    Good luck with it.
  • Well doesnt look like CCCS got my email so I have emailed them again.

Looking at our budget we should have an extra £1000 a month to throw at our debts could be a bit more but some of our outgoings have increased since I started back at work so we want to make sure we are leaving some slack in the budget for the increases.

Just really waiting to hear back from CCCS then I will need to write off to our creditors with our new payments. Thing is with some of them we will be back to paying our contractual ammounts so we may be charged interest again but will just need to sit and wait.

  • Spoke to CCCS. They will pay Aprils installment and we shall take over from May. They will send out all our creditors info asap so I can get on with writing to them all. Hopefully they will all be happy to get more money. Must work out our new DFD current one is something like 2024:eek: .

Got paid today as well:j it feels great to be getting some money comming in.

  • Well we got a letter from M&S yesterday stating we had broken our agreement with them and they are taking further action. NO idea what this is about but OH will need to call them tomorrow. Hopefully it is an error, as far as I can tell CCCS paid them as normal at the end of march.

Not got very far in getting a template letter together for our creditors going to have a try at the moment.

Just hoping they dont all start pilling on interest again.
