Another high electricity bill question

Have you tried reading your meter daily or, are you just going by your bill?
I would do a couple of daily readings and then try one day without the immersion heater and see what difference it makes. I'm a bit paranoid about them. When we moved into our present house, we had one, and didn't realise it was always on. We had to remove the fuse to turn it off - switching off at wall did nothing.0 -

Yes that is something like that I would have guessed we should be on in the summer0 -

Yes I have been reading daily for 4 weeks (a few days missed) but we are on about 25 a day
Our water heater is only on for 2 hours during the night and temperature is not at the highest0 -
We live in a 4 flat house and I can read all the other flats meters as well as mine so I might read theirs to see how much they use!0

But that seems a long time to heat water for two of you - that's why I wondered if it was faulty. In our last all-electric house, we had the hot water on for less than that for six of us - we do share bath water but it was still more than one bath.0 -

Your hot water heater 2 x 6kWh = 12kWh and heated towel rail 6 x 150W = 900Wh are using more than half your daily consumption alone!
Your Fridge Freezer could be using up to 3kWh per day, however your PC probably consumes about 1/3 of your quoted 450Wh and your TV is likely to be less than 188Wh if a standard type. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Hmm good point! So I don't know a lot about water heaters so please help me! There are two heaters which can do different temperatures so how should I adjust them to get the most use of them?0 -

One of the immersion heaters is usually a boost heater. You may find that having one on for an hour may be enough e.g. 3kWh per day rather than 2 x 3kWh x 2 Hr = 12kWh per day. It depends how much hot water you actually need. If it is one of the latest very well insulated type of water heaters, they only lose approx 2kWh of heat per day when left on continuously. i.e. when a whole tank full of water has been heated, the heat loss is only about 2kWh per day plus what you actually draw off. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Ha Ha I think you lost me there! Is that if I leave the the immersion on all day?
The flat was build just over a year ago but the heater is newer hot to touch and the cupboard it is in does not feel warm or anything which I guess would mean it is well insulated?0 -
okay so I have a 180l tank if that helps to see if 2 hours is too much?0
