Another high electricity bill question

Hi All,

I know you must all be tired of people trying to figure out how they have spend so much electricity but I really think there is something wrong with mine! We just got a bill of £75 and have used 25kw a day.

We are a couple living in a new build (2007) 2 bedroom 2 bathroom flat.
We only have electricity no gas.
I have 1 electric heater on for 2.5 hours a day (1.5kw an hour)
Water is times for 2 hours a day (6kw an hour)
Tv is on for about 6 hours a day (188w an hour)
Computer is on 6-8 hours a day (450w an hour)
Fridge/Freezer is on all day (not sure)
Heated tower rail 6 hours (150w)
1 Wash a day
5 cups of tea a day

Think that is more or less what we use so I can't understand how that comes to 25kw a day in our last bill?

What have I missed or does that sound correct to you?

We have really tried to save on this bill as our last bill we used 42kw a day so we have gone down a bit but still too might I think!!!

Hope you guys have some ideas what might be wrong or what I can do to just get it around the average spend!

Thanks,

Dennis

Sorry but I really think 25kWh a day usage is really low for someone on electric only. As for your calculations, you haven't included lighting, and boiling water for those cups of tea will be using a lot. What about showers/baths?

all electric is always more than gas and electric..

do you really only have one heater on for that length of time? Wish we could heat our flat just with that.......

No fair enough but I only have low energy ones nothing above 20W and that is only 3 the rest is 7w and 14w.

We are talking a 2 bedroom flat with only 1 heater on for 2.5 hours! So even in summer I would be on about 20kw a day!

Surely that is a bit high!

Yes I have turned the rest off and have the living room/kitchen on for that amount of time!

But I did not say it was warm!!! we got a shock last time when we got a bill with more than 40kw a day so had to cut down!

    do you not cook?

when I was using the leisure centre lots a couple of summers ago so didn't bother to put hot water on I got down to 7 units per day

averaged 13 units a day last summer with hot water on

20-25 units per day approx in autumn/spring with two of us

winter - don't ask - far too much!

Electric shower? Tumble drier? And, as said, cooking?

That's a long time to have immersion heater on for two people - could it be faulty?

Okay I get your point but I can't understand how to get anything below what we are now as the only difference I can see for the summer is turning the heater off which will only save us 3kw a day bringing us down to around 20 with a bit of luck!

20kw a day in the summer just sounds like a lot from reading on this forum!!!

No electric shower and yes we have a Tumble drier but we mainly line dry so maybe once or twice a week!

Yes. We're a family of six averaging 13kwh a day in the summer, cooking and hot water by gas.

if you're really bothered, try getting an energy monitoring product?

so you have a washing machine too then?

I wish I could get our usage down to what you're managing...

If you don't use the tumble dryer much, I think you'll be well under 20 kw per day in the summer
