I hate Sugar Puffs. I hate the smell. I have bought it years ago (at kid's request!), and it used to make their wee smell the same as the sugar puffs.

I haven't eaten sugar puffs since my sister told me they were made from rotten teeth _pale_ Its also why I can't eat blue veined cheese, my dad told me the veins were created by maggots crawling through them :o Even though I know its not true, all I can think of is that every time I see them.

We were at my MIL's for supper one night and she said we were having a salad. When it came, it was chopped pork, a whole tomato, a whole boiled egg, one lettuce leaf (whole), Heinz tinned vegetable salad, salad cream and chips.

Actually I could quite fancy that:o

For me it has to be - Liver.

I'll eat pretty much anything, incl. most offal, and used to have cod-roe-on-toast regularly at home, as well as roasted pigs tails, homemade faggots (can't stand any commercially made ones, but would still eat my mum's HM ones!), and devilled kidneys are yum!

But I really can't stand the smell or texture of liver.

And any fish with bones in - don't get me wrong, I know that most fish have bones in! - I mean when cooked & served...if I get a fish-bone in my mouth it makes me gag and I don't really want to eat the rest of the fish, even though I do like fish! For this reason I don't eat kippers, even though I love the smell of them cooking, as their bones are horrible!

Those pilchards in the red tins.
    Economy bread.
Ready meals that smell like hospital/old peoples' home food.
'Rola Cola' type cheap pop. (useful for cleaning rust off metal though).
    Greasy sausage rolls.
Unspecific 'white fish' in frozen bricks from the supermarket.

  • Soundslike the Glenryck tins?

That's the stuff. They always remind me of the scene in 'Abigail's Party' where the nerdy/spackky woman talks about how she makes pilchard curry!

  • I've bought the stuff once - not sure if it was pilchards or mackeral but it was very mature fish and taste to match. Seemed more how you'd expect fresh water fish to taste. Couldn't even flavour the stuff.

Two fish products that spring to mind are fermented catfish and pickled gouramy. If you've ever had fish sauce, or nam pla - used in thai green curry and imagine it has gone stale. These fish are so hideous they are apparently used as a test in survival training.

Does anyone remember a cheese in a jar that was available in the 1970s? I can't remember what it was called, but I used to love the stuff. It was quite orange. I hate to think what was actually in it!

The name "Cheese Wizz" comes to mind. Never tried it though.
