I used to love a Fray Bentos pie, my dear old dad used to work as a docker and regularly brought home tons of tins after a box out of the cargo got damaged
oh this takes me back!!
I wouldn't want to try one now though cos I know it would taste rank and ruin my memoriesDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

I went to a chinese resturant once with a freind and a chinese girl from her work. SHe ordered in chinese and a load of chicken heads with the beaks on were placed in front of us. I claimed to be vegetarian
I have a freind who is married to the most beautiful and truly lovely chinese lady and they live here. I have turned my nose up at all sorts of meats - ( there is nothing in the planyt kingdonm I wouldnt eat if starving). Freind tells me you cant shock a Chinese person about food, they literally will eat everything from an animal- beaks, teeth you name it. A whole country full of Old stylingIIRC he siad it was driven by poverty and make do & mend as a cultural thing.
A mate told me he was on a bus through China and no other tourists onboard. thery stopped at this mountain outpost, and it was a low table where everyone sat and they all were served the same meal. A steamer full of rice to share, and a huge terracotta pot. The lid was brought off the pot and a vile stench filled the room whereas all the chinese people were practically dribbling. He as the tourist was offered it first and through the filmy stock he saw it was a whole cows head with the eyelashes still on
Yes, it is true old style here. They really do eat 'all' of the animal.0 -

I hate Sugar Puffs. I hate the smell. I have bought it years ago (at kid's request!), and it used to make their wee smell the same as the sugar puffs.0 -
Boiled fish rans (roes). My mum and dad used to love these. They used to boil them in a muslin, and put them in the fridge when it was cool. I used to hate the smell and the look of it. It was white and crumbly and reminded me of brains or white dog poop.
They also love hairy willy, which is dried herring (I think), mashed with potatoes. I couldn't eat it because of what it was called.
No, no, no, NO! I just looked up white (soft) roe, which is what my family (not me!) loved.
That HAS got to be the worst!
OMG I used to love soft roes on toast when I were a nipper
But also loved winkles round my Nan's, sticking the pin in to "winkle" them out was all part of the routine
I could never face one nowadaysEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

I think nobody mentioned it because we all secretly love it! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Edited to add, having read the stuff about the chinese eating "all" the animals, I never forgot seeing someone in Bari (South Italy) on the rocks by the sea near the harbour, and old bloke stooping and picking up a large-ish crab that was crawling on the rocks, tearing its legs off and stuffing the body, shell and all, in his mouth and crunching away happily.
I was horrified and quite gaggy and the person with me (a local) told me that this was quite normal and he told me of seeing an old woman at the market walking by a fresh fish stall, pinching a sardine off the mound and, raw as it was, stuffing it in her mouth and eating it while walking away.
Now I know why I am vegetarian! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
My Mum craved Fray Bentos meat pies in a can when pregnant with me. If I ever develop CJD I'm suing her!
I think the worse thing I've ever seen was processed cheese in a spray can in the USA.0
