Has anyone here ever been to Japan?
I went as I was speakign at a conference, and was quite excited, as of course Id never been to Japan, and probably wouldnt want to go overly so was thrilled with the fact my employer was paying me to go :j
Joy quickly turned to sorrow as I tried in vain to eat my way around tokyo. I am not good company when Im hungryI do not eat any cold fish, nor would I ( know that is quite heathen
) , so obviously I was on the back foot there! I do eat hot fish though and love it in most forms. Tokyo smells very strongly of fish, and as mentioned before I do have a somewhat delicate gag reflex, and at times, the smell really seemed to permeate. I noticed one night when I got back to the hotel my BRA smelt of fish. No matter what I tried to do i could not escape the smell, so adopted the "this will be funny when I retell it" approach and tried to stop gagging.
Anyway coped for a few days, and one morning I set off early from my hotel with the intention of heading to see Mount Fuji & the 5 lakes.I left before the breakfast was served, and popped into a 7:11 by the station, and sorted myself out with a mini tube of pringles, some diet coke, and a tube of mini biscuits, in chocolate and a plain looking one with a yellow filling, somewhat like custard cream looking - thinking "theyll do" . Couple of hours later was starving and had ate the pringles and drank the coke so set to work on the biscuits. They were quite small about the size of a 10p peice. So chucked a couple in my chops and there it was that all rto familiar smell. Yes, the biscuits were FISH flavour!!
Be aware should you ever go to Japan- probably do yourself a favour and take some english food with you if you are not too keen on fish!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

urgh yeah they do look wrong. Ive always thought that bacon is more like a chop shape, nad they obvioulsy sell the best bits of bacon- as bacon- so whats it made of
My sister used to be a really fussy eater, and used to pretty much survive on lamb dalesteaks.... a freind once brought them to a BBQ we had - they fell apart and the fat ignitied :rotfl::beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Oh and kit-kats,I just love those.
MrsT, if you start making your own baked beans you will never go back to tinned! My whole family nearly went into revolt when I suggested, only a couple of days ago, that I buy some organic baked beans that are in a special offer through my wholesale catalogue!
If you soak them in the night then pressure cook them in the morning while you have a shower, they are ready and cooked, then you make a quick tomato and onion sauce, add a few shots of ketchup, salt and a large tbsp of treacle (or molasses), whizz it all then mix with the cooked beans.
I freeze it in 2-3 portions boxes (which I have religiously kept for years from my - former - takeaway habit!)
So much for baked beans, now for the worst food in the universe:
For me it has to be KIDNEYS! When I was a child and my mum used to boil kidneys to cook for my dad, the stench in the house was such that it would make me vomit, so on those occasions I had to go to my grandma - who luckily did not live very far.
Also I second the idea that processed foods for the most part are pretty yucky.
Pink bubbe gum comes to mind as a close second to kidneys!
When I looked at the Steve don't Eat It website, I was amused at finding breast milk as a "yucky", and he goes on to say that cows milk is better! Ah well.... my DH got a shot of my best and freshest on one occasion when the twins were babies and I had run out of cows milk for the tea. I provided the goods and did not tell him until it was too late - he was not impressed!
Funny how people are squeamish about human milk and not about other species' no?Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
WHen I was a child we took those lovely burgers in gravy on holidays in a caravan!! We also took unbaked sausage rolls which came in a tin, fry bentos pies and roast beef which also came in a tin. In fact everything came with us in a tin!! Needless to say I have not inflicted upon my kids. My best friends mum took vesta beef curry, you know the one you add water too. Lovely, think I will cook all these lovely delights next time my mother comes to stay!!!!0

Any tinned meat, especially the kind with jellied fat on it turns my stomach! Those ten calorie soups that have every chemical under the sun in the ingredients list and nothing that looks like actual food (even the meat flavour ones are vegetarian society endorsed!).0
