sim card cancelled for non-use

Just a warning. If you do not use your mobile phone for a defined period, the call provider will cancel your sim card, not tell you they have done so, and steal any payment you may have made on pay as you go. Even if you contact them (in this case Virgin Media) and ask to reinstate the contract, they will not credit you with the money you have paid. This is tantamount to theft - but also dangerous. I discovered this had happened to a lady of 93 years who had the mobile purely for emergency use. When she needed to use the telephone, it did not work. It had been cancelled. How many other vulnerable people are there out there who think they have this means of emergency contact - when in fact they dont?

It says in the T's and C's for pay as you go. This has been the case for as far back as I can remember..

Apart from using the sim to make a call or send a text is there anything you can do for free that will keep it alive?

Another example of not reading the terms and conditions, or understanding the product bought.

Annoying, but hardly the network's fault.

Could you text their phone instead of them making a call/text?

Not sure if that would work.

Yes this is correct - but only on payt sims not contract ones.

My 71 year old neighbour has one for emergency use only as some of the above posters. He has clearly read and understood the ts and cs and diaries in to make 1 call every 6 months just to keep the number alive. He only rings his home number, picks it up and straight down again.

This isn't a new thing btw.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j
