£3ish vs. your principles

Sold a dress, tagged size 10, listed measurements, specified no returns (I'm a private seller just having a wardrobe clearout).
Got a message from the buyer today along the lines of: "doesnt fit too tight". (Fits me fine and I'm a 10, but thought it's best not to bring this up with the buyer... ;) )
I sent a message back asking whether I listed the measurements correctly, buyer said that the measurements were fine.

I think they're fishing for a refund, but, I don't think I've done anything wrong here. If I don't refund I can see a possible neg. But for the amount it sold for, sending a refund wouldn't bother me.
Except for the principles!
I have 100% feedback and it would be unfortunate to ruin that, but it's probably going to happen one day anyway. But if I can avoid it, what's a little hit on the old principles...

I'm just musing really.. haven't decided what I'm going to do yet.
What would you do?

She'll probably still neg you, even if you refund, as it's obviously your faullt she's to fat for dress. :D
I suspect you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

Personally I wouldn't reply to the mail - what you supposed to do if her !!! is too big ?
  • I got negged last year because an XL item I sold, which was listed with all the measurements, was too small. Apparently I should have known and sent a bigger size!

I did not know you could state no returns
  • I have it set that I do not accept returns.

I think since its a private seller - they do not have to accept returns - it is up to the individual.

  • That's so irritating! When you buy online, you can't try it on first that's the gamble I and everyone else takes when we buy clothes from eBay. Plenty of things I've bought haven't fitted or suited me, that's just the way it is and I've resold the items. I've sold a few things recently and have found that buyers seem to be getting pickier. I do sympathise with you.

If you do refund, you should insist that the item is returned to you with her paying for the postage, particularly since she's agreed that it was correctly listed. Good luck!

Don't offer a refund if you don't want but send a really friendly email saying that you give her permission to use your photos if she wants to relist, it might stop her itchy feedback finger if she thinks you are being helpful.

Many years back I sold clothes and got a neutral from a buyer on the basis something was 'way too smal' and I did leave a neutral back saying 'buy the size you are not the size you want to be', oh, I got some hate mail on that one. I wouldn't dare do it now being a sensible business seller and all that.

:D As much as that'd make me chuckle, whenever I see that kind of thing on other people's feedback profile, it always comes across as a bit childish and unprofessional.

Yep. And as mostly a clothes seller I can't be doing with people wearing clothes then wanting to return them for a full refund!
Dress sizes change from make to make so knowing the size is not a concrete guide

Exactly! You just deal with it and resell the item or give it away or something. It's the chance you take.

If I offer a refund minus postage costs I could still be left with a neg but it has cost me extra in effort.
