Lovefilm liars.......

I was charged for 3 years for a service I canceled via a sainsburys free trial offer (recommended here) by Lovefilm. because we order DVDs to buy from various places this didn't look out of place on the statement until we discovered it a couple of weeks ago. I phoned Lovefilm and explained the mistake and they closed my account and told me £304 was on the way as a refund. I got my letter today which was the usual "sorry your leaving" but no cheque. My suspicians were aroused and I gave them a ring. They now tell me they are not going to refund the whole amount, only the last 12 months. I am so angry with them. Yes, of course it is my responsibility to check my statements but when they tell me they are refunding the whole amount and then change their mind isn't there something I can do ?

when you cancelled how did you do it and did you take no reference/name or keep any record? Also I am not being funny but it took you three years to notice this? Do you not check your bank statements/transactions which seems odd for someone on MSE?
Lovefilm always appears on my bank statements clearly. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
The issue isn't the statements here, its the fact they said they were refunding me the whole amount and then changed their minds.0

Under the data protection act can you request a copy of the transcript of the telephone call?0

I was told that they about being told I had a cheque for the full amount but it seemed head office intercepted the request and changed it.0

in all fairness, it is your fault it went on so long, a few months is understandable, 6 months, maybe but anything over that is a bit susI suppose I should just accept the years worth cheque and be glad
doesnt mean they had any right to change their mind though. thats not on.0 -
Consumer direct tell me I do have a case and should write them a letter but it may be difficult to prove the conversation took place.0

That's happened to me with internet access before. As I had cancelled some years before I didn't have the details anymore and they didn't offer me any sort of refund. And yes, I know I really should have noticed it early but that is one of the many many reasons that I am in the situation I am now in!Wedding 5th September 20150
