Is £496 for one months gas too high?
Comments
-
So it's definitely for one month's usage?
Can't quite believe it, really, but if it is, then something's gone wrong somewhere...
Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Do you get gas and elec from same supplier? £200 a month for elec seems high as well, unless as its your final bill, it is a 'catchup' bill for previous months that were underestimated.
nearly £700 for fuel per month must be incorrect, but if its because previous payments have been low you are just catching up.
Not sure why they would be taking meter redings every month, usually done quarlerly.
How much have you paid over the previous 6 months? Has it been really high for those months too (obviously will be slightly lower in warmer months)
As you are renting, when is the last time the boiler was serviced, is it fairly new?
Im not surprised the last tennant did a runner if he was expected to pay £600+ for monthly fuel!!0 -

Well this is the problem - kind of hit a brick wall. EDF refuse to do anything further to investigate.
Also consider this one which is quite scary - they replaced all the old gas pipes in my Mother-In-Law's road a couple of weeks ago and her gas bill (key meter) doubled overnight. But they changed the pipes so a main one leads up to her house and her neighbour's and then splits to each house. Suffice to say the neighbour's not being very helpful - they're probably not paying for their gas!!!:mad:0 -

If its a final reading, then that will have been read, but was it the correct figure on the meter (it should be the exact same figure thats the 'start' on your first Eon bill.
Were any readings since you moved in, estimated?thecornflake wrote: »EDF who were the spplier sent no bill until November, including the previous tenant's huge debt (they did a runner).
Do you have an accurate reading from the day you moved in, are you certain that all the previous tennants debt was taken off? Was the bill sent in november based on two accurate readings (ie the one when you moved in and the one at the time the bill was sent)thecornflake wrote: »It will get added to the IVA anyway, but I don't want to be paying it off if it's wrong when the money could be going to real debts.
Yep, I would check all details first, you dont want to be paying for anyone elses debt, or mistake.
If there is any possibility that your meter is feeding another property, it should show up if you switch everything off and check if the meter is still going round, but this will only help if you are watching the meter at the exact time the gas is being used by someone else.
Its a pain, but might be good evidence, if you keep a close daily record of your usage, as you will have more of an understanding of the rate its being used.
Reminds me of watchdog, there water meters were installed at the wrong point on the water pipe, so one person was getting billed for their neighbours water too.0 -
Surely they cant just wash there hands of it i would press them further even write to them and if you have no joy then i would contact the omsbudsman (sorry if thats spelled incorrectly :-) ). that amount of money is stupid for a months worth of gas.:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

this needs investigating a.s.a.p by your gas supplier.how can they refuse to investigate? someone with more knowledge will point you in the right direction soon on here.
is the gas meter registering units with your gas appliances turned off?
i hope you get this sorted.0 -
Old potterton boiler (27 yrs old), old Victorian inefficient house, = I use on average 1 1/2 m3 units per hour. If I left it on for 24 hours = 36 units/day = @ 402 kwh/day = @.04p per kwh = £16.08/day = A MONTHLY BILL OF £482.
To get a monthly bill like you received would be almost impossible unless there is some mistake in the system or you are heating at max on thermo for 24 hours every day.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -

Monthly readings because the previous bill is for 6 months roughly so it goes up to end of Dec.
Previous bill is very high but not quite £500/month.
Boiler is old, no idea of last service. We do have CO2 detectors by the way.0 -
thecornflake wrote: »I'm wondering what the general consensus is. This is our bill from January from EDF for just Gas. There are two adults and two kids in a two bedroom house. We have gas ch but not for cooking. However we only ran it for 4 hours a day during all of January. We've spoken to them and checked our meter is cubic meters, they won't do anything else. They suggested turning everything off and seeing if the meter moves, it doesn't seem to.
We've also checked the meter serial number which is correct. wondering if the boiler is leaking and usign more than it should when it is running?
Our house is rented by the way.
Re your house being rented - is it a private landlord? if so, get the landlord to get a corgi registered engineer out to look at the meter.
Is it a council property? if so, get the council to get a corgi registered engineer to look at the meter.
Also see if you can take the meter read for a week and then you can work out your average daily consumption.
Hope this helps!:T0 -
WOW!! We heat a 2 bedroom place to a constant 22 degrees between 6-8am, 11am-1pm and 5-11pm and 18 degrees all other times. We also use gas to cook, and hot water is left on constantly and our gas bill is £29 per month and we were in credit by £20 after our Jan bill. With BGas.0
