I'm wondering what the general consensus is. This is our bill from January from EDF for just Gas. There are two adults and two kids in a two bedroom house. We have gas ch but not for cooking. However we only ran it for 4 hours a day during all of January. We've spoken to them and checked our meter is cubic meters, they won't do anything else. They suggested turning everything off and seeing if the meter moves, it doesn't seem to.
We've also checked the meter serial number which is correct. wondering if the boiler is leaking and usign more than it should when it is running?
Our house is rented by the way.

Erm that's £16 a DAY!!!!
Are you sure that it's not for the quarter
We're on prepay gas (which should be one of the more expensive options) and have water on for about 2 hours a day and heating on for about 3 hours a day (with extra a weekend) and it only works out about £80 or so a monthworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Looks at least 4 times to high to me. Are you sure it's not a quarterly bill for 3 months?0

I live in a 4 bedroomed house - 2 adults, 2 children. Gas central heating, gas for cooking. We pay £120 a month for gas & electricity and we're always in a credit. We got a fixed deal some time back but your bill seems excessive. Many lovely wins over the years - thanks to all that post:A0

Are both the start reading and the end reading on this bill actual readings (A) or estimates (E).0

Sounds a crazy amount for one month.
We would probably need more info to help.
Is this your first bill, (ie meter read at end of dec and again at end of jan, they are saying that amount was used in that month) -perhaps the first reading was not accurate.
If you have lived there some time, have your previous readings been estimated? What was your usage this time last year?
If they have been underestimated for some time, and then the meter his read, there would be a buildup of unpaid for gas that now needs to be paid for.
I read a similar thread before, and the person was advised that it is very unlikely to be a leeking meter as that much gas could blow the street up, and would have been smelt by now.
I think its down to the meter readings, either underestimated, or written down wrong.
Is the latest meter reading definatly correct?
eg your meter reading may be 58229, but if it was entered as 85229, then it would look like you had used lots more gas.0 -
It's actual not estimated. It's definitely one month - it's the last bill. Long story short -
We moved in 6 months ago
We had been with Eon at the last place and asked them to switch over to the new house
They didn;t (have admitted their mistake)
EDF who were the uspplier sent no bill until November, including the previous tenant's huge debt (they did a runner)
We got their debt removed but still owe them the 6 months since we moved in. They're not chasing it too much as it was EON's fault and we're adding it to our new IVA anyway.
We have now switched to EON since beginning Feb, so this is the last bill from eDF for January this year. That's on top of the several thousand pounds from the previous 6 months. Electricity is over £200 for the month as well.
It will get added to the IVA anyway, but I don't want to be paying it off if it's wrong when the money could be going to real debts.0
