Teenager wants new flip phone maybe with old sim.

Can anyone help as I don't know much about sims and phones?

My daughter wants a new smart flip type phone for her birthday. She currently has a payg orange nokia with 5 free texts a day, and she wants to keep the free texts - or find a better deal. She doesn't make that many voice calls.

Can we buy a new phone, unlock and use the old card? Is that the best idea? Which phone offers best value with camera, and some fancy extras?

Any help much appreciated! It's all too compicated for me.

Thanks

Try www.orangeaccessories.co.uk click on reconditioned phones ,and you should come across a Motorola V545 flip phone with built in camera. All you have to do is swap sim cards and away you go. :p

If you are using the same sim, ie orange sim into a new orange phone then it will work, the problem you have is when you try to use a orange sim into a o2 phone, etc etc., then you will have to get the phone unlocked.
A thankyou is payment enough .

I agree with this post so try and get a phone that is easily unlocked like a Nokia or go for something from Orange and put in your old simcard.

My simcard is my orignal with these 5 free texts and I just update the phone and use my old sim.

  • So all I need is an orange payg flip phone, or another I can unlock, which I suppose might be a pain.

Thanks for all that info, any advice/expeiences of particular flip models available also welcome!

First of all, don't do anything to lose your five free texts a day as this alone is worth over £180 per annum if texts cost 10p each and you won't find a better deal now!

    ;)

Although you can simply put an old SIM into a new Orange handset, if you do buy an Orange PAYG phone, you can simply ring up and have your old account transferred across to the new SIM supplied with the phone. This has the advantage of using the latest available profile Orange SIM, which will most likely store twice as many texts and phone numbers along with £1 credit added. You may also be able to check your credit by requesting a text message, rather than by listening to a voice message etc.

  • thanks for that - no we don't want to lose the free texts - if we switch the account over to the new sim, what's to stop orange taking them away!?? They must be keen to lose accounts like that...
