 I was 9 years old and honestly felt like a pensioner. I cried and my mum and dad had to take me out of school and away on holiday to Butlins the following week to console me. I wore polo necks all summer as my hair was so short up the back of my neck. I looked like Richard Simmons!

    Lol!

What is it about tight curly perms and old ladies? It seemed that at one point, during the seventies...when you hit 40, that was it....just have a tight curly perm and wear nothing but bri nylon. Oh, and a rain hat for good measure. I suppose I should count myself lucky that at nearly 50, I can still have long hair, wear hipster jeans (my muffin top is just as good as any 18 year olds :D and not an under the chin scarf in sight!
    Life.

Sometimes I think about a pink rinse. :rotfl: But I've never had it coloured either and I'm not fond of chemicals. So a bit

My hair has varied in length from very long (and my cow of a mother sold it:mad: ) to extremely short
DS3 WANTS to sell his hair, which he recently had cut from below waist length to Sean Bean length. Struggling to find anywhere to take it.

I still have my hair, and DS1's, which he had cut off a year or so ago for charity. His was also waist length.

I had mine cut quite short when I was 36 ish, and ended up paying an absolute fortune about 2 years later for extensions, cos it was taking so long ot grow.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

I'm 29 and recently had all my hair chopped to about my chin from just below my shoulders.

TBH I am still in two minds whether or not I am happy about it, everyone and I mean everyone has said how much better it looks and it is ALOT easier to manage (with one drawback being I have to wash it every day which I didn't have to do before) but I still feel like a frump with hair this length.....though I think it could also be something to do with the fact I'm a mature student and all my college friends are no older than 21! To them I'm a real old biddy! I just wish I had kept it in a bit better condition when it was long and then maybe I wouldn't have had to have it cut off!

But the plus side of being a student and having no money is that I can't really afford to get it cut again for a while so it prolly will end up growing a fair bit!

    Oh....where was I?

Oh yeah, another reason I had it all lopped off was because at approaching 30 I felt I was possibly too old to have really long hair anyway!

Just look at yourself honestly in the mirror and decide whether or not your long hair suits you. I realised a few years ago that mine was dragging my face down.

I love having long (bra-strap length) hair - but when I look honestly at myself I realise that it simply doesn't suit me now that I'm in my 40s. I cut it myself up to around shoulder length and it looks a lot better (for me).

If you look in the mirror and still love your long hair - then keep it long.

I'm not writing off growing mine really long again - any grey I have is currently growing in perfectly white and slightly curly so I'm seriously thinking of letting that be my new look :)

I'm 38 with my hair about 3" above my waist, and it's staying like that!

Saying that, it's cut into graduated layers and though I say so myself, in really good condition.

I think what can make long hair aging is when it's all 1 length, and hangs froma middle parting like a pair of curtains!

I think it all depends how youthful your face is and clothes style.

In Waitrose the other day there was a girl (i thought) with her back to me very petite with very girly clothes and long blonde hair when she turned round she must of been 50 plus and it was a shock.

Ah...she is what my darling oh jokingly calls a Boyner(battle of the Boyne 1690)...looks 16 from the back and 90 from the front:eek: :rotfl:

Must be nice to look 16 from any angle if you're really 90. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Iam 41 and Iam starting to feel as if I must keep my hair a certain length (shoulder) and not let it grow any further. I feel sad tho as I have natural blonde hair and really want it lashing down my back just to show it off. But i feel i might look a bit silly.

NO NO NO NO NO! keep it long if that's how you like it!!

    Hiya

I'm 40 and my hair is in gentle layers to my waist, slightly shorter in front. I love it but seems a bit heavy so gets flat too soon. Use root boosters and trim a good 1/2 inch off every month but it grows so fast I can't keep up!

Am thinking of trimming to 2in past shoulder, same length all round, just to lighten it a bit. Not because of my age, I reckon it'll be dead long again in six months if I don't like it :)

You do what you feel, there is no magical age of transition! Went to a barber when I was 31, he told me he thought all women past 30 should have short hair. Up til that point I'd thought he was gay :) Said he was amazed at the good condition of my hair. Why have hair of any length in bad condition? Just didn't get that bit. Anyway, he was probably just jealous :)

    Do what you want.
