...I am going to come back on on Tuesday, and update on the SIL's bob.

With any luck, she'll have turned overnight into Nora Batty.....:rotfl:

And I'm sure she loves you to bits as well, however she might just be afraid that you will be way better looking with your nice long hair!!

Must mention that(most) men adore long hair, they seem to find it very feminine

    No-o-o-o.

I remember having perms in the 80s and, never again. Perms are so ageing. My mom has her hair permed because she finds it more manageable but I really wish she wouldn't. She has grey hair now and just looks like an old woman because of the colour and style (I don't mind the grey, just the perm).

I quite like curly hair if it is pre-raphaelite style but short permed locks doesn't appeal at all. Straight hair is more youthful and who wants to look old?

I can remember having a perm - I came out of the hairdressers looking and feeling like a french poodle. Never ever again. My hair has varied in length from very long (and my cow of a mother sold it:mad: ) to extremely short and now I have a graduated bob so its long at the front and short at the back.

So you have your hair how you want - shave it all off if you want too:D

Iam 41 and Iam starting to feel as if I must keep my hair a certain length (shoulder) and not let it grow any further. I feel sad tho as I have natural blonde hair and really want it lashing down my back just to show it off. But i feel i might look a bit silly.
Just to win anything would be great!!

Don't worry, i'm not getting permed! I had it permed in the 80s, when big hair was the thing, and I thought I looked like Jennifer Rush. :rotfl: That wasn't too bad. But when my sister wanted to be a hairdresser I was her guinea pig. That was after my Girl's World head got shorn and I was the only thing left. She cut it and permed it, and I had absolutely no movement at all. It was like a very short afro. I was 9 years old and honestly felt like a pensioner. I cried and my mum and dad had to take me out of school and away on holiday to Butlins the following week to console me. I wore polo necks all summer as my hair was so short up the back of my neck. I looked like Richard Simmons!

 Bon Marche has an eclectic range, from very trendy (IMO) to absolutely definitely old-lady-polyester.

I have never seen anything which could be described as "very trendy" in Bon Marche! Even my mum calls it "too grannyish" and she is 65. :rotfl:

Perms are coming back into fashion again. Not the perms of the 80s but modern, conditioning perms, giving soft waves.

I've just had my shoulder length hair done and I'm delighted with the result. I can still finish it in different ways, blow-dry straight, increase the spiral effect, put it up, etc. etc. and the main benefit is that it is sooo much easier to manage and keep looking nice.

I definitely think it's a better look for me and quite the opposite of ageing. I do have a very good hairdresser though. When she suggested it, she pointed out one of the other hairdressers who has one and is the same age as my DD - who's now thinking of having one herself!

I can let it go 3 or 4 days before washing it too.
