There was plenty speculation about it (especially on this site, on the savings section). If people who bought at the top knew it was going to burst, then why did they buy?

Sorry Steve the point I was making was that if anyone who bought at the top of the market comments about their missfortune at buying at the top of the market then the mad bears go crazy and tell them that they should have seen the exact time when the bubble was going to burst like they did.

Yet the very same bears are the ones on here complaining about the fact that they were not smart enough to secure a good return on their savings and are now out of pocket due to the very burst that they supposedly predicted in the first place.

A load of bear !!!!!! as per usual...

The bears want high interest rates on savings, falling house prices and low interest rates on mortgages.

More impressively they openly suggest that they want this on this site and seem to expect to be taken seriously!

I knew I had missed something and in fact was going to add that I thought this, but as someone had thanked me I didn't bother with the edit. Yes I see good point (that had went over my head)

Imagine how dissapointed they would be if QE actually delivers, I actually think it has a chance of shortening the recession to no more than a year from now and we could be recovering in about 2 years

You may laugh at me but I am quite a sensible person.

Perhaps I have seen in reality a lot more of the horribleness of the present situation (i.e people going under and losing everything) than most on here and I am angry at how unfair it all is.

I used to be relatively right wing when I wasyoung but as soon as I started to earn enough that I was comfortable I actually became quite a socialist - in that I would (genuinely) prefer to be taxed more so long as the money goes on state pensions and the genuinely needy (as opposed to being thrown away or being wasted on big brother world). I do not however support our government who I have always thought incompetent. I'm more of a lib dem when it comes to voting due to where I live and the person I want as my MP.

I am not pro rioting - I am just surprised we aren't seeing any and I suspect it may be due to people being quite scared.

Haven't read all of this thread but the way I see it is that savers should not think they have a God given right to a return on their money. Savers are just glorified moneylenders. Its a supply and demand situation and at the moment your money is not required. For years savers have been the winners and now for once the because borrowers are having a little respite, you are all up in arms protesting. Doesn't it occur to you that when the interest rate is up to 7-15% or whatever and you are raking in the interest, someone is paying for your profits, usually someone poor who cannot afford it. It may be someone who has lost their job and has been forced to borrow to make ends meet.

Just because you have been fortunate enough in life to have been able to save does not mean that you are morally superior to someone who has always struggled. It may just be that you were born to advantage whilst someone else has had a disadvantaged upbringing. Some people work and try all their lives to get somewhere and its like trying to run up an escalator going the wrong way. People like this now have the chance at last to get straight and they are trying to pay off their debts. They do not want to finance your pension.

My situation is the reverse. I have only arrived back in the UK two months ago. I earn a six figure salary, own a property outright, have around £330000 built up in savings, absolutely no debt and am currently saving £5500 a month into pensions and other savings, and I can't get a freaking credit card here, despite always paying previous cards off in full.

If you've only been here 2 months you got no chance of getting credit mate, regardless of your income.
